3 Chic Ways to Wear Orange Lipstick

Reds and pinks get plenty of color play on the lips, but shades of orange are a flattering way to quickly add some glow to your complexion.

Reds and pinks get plenty of color play on the lips, but shades of orange are a flattering way to quickly add some glow to your complexion. Just this week, we've seen three different celebrities showcase three different ways to wear orange hues, ranging from daring to demure.

Bright red-orange: A modern take on a classic red, Nikki Reed showed that an orange base can help add warmth to your makeup — even in the middle of Winter. Try Nars Lipstick in Heat Wave ($24) and pair it with plenty of blush to stand up to the boldness of the hue. Top things off with a rich, warm shadow.

Matte orange: Jessica Alba proved that tangerine, last year's It color, is here to stay. She kept it seasonal with a matte finish, while her bright blond highlights added a luminous touch. Olive-undertoned complexions look gorgeous in colors with yellowish undertones, just like Jessica's full-on orange version. Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera ($28) is a perfectly vibrant option.

Muted coral: If going matte and/or vibrant is a little too intense, why not try a muted peach shade like Garcelle Beauvais did? Try a color like L'Oréal Colour Riche Lipstick in Peach Fuzz ($9) and build up to an intensity you're comfortable with.
