Gwyneth Paltrow Shares Her City Guides: "I Do Ride the Subway!"

Gwyneth Paltrow looked flawless the evening after the Met Gala.

Gwyneth Paltrow looked flawless the evening after the Met Gala. There was evidently no early morning carousing and certainly no hangover for Gwyneth and her husband, Chris Martin, who skipped the Met Gala red carpet to meet up with Gwyneth and their friends inside. The best part of the night for Gwyneth? "Going home and taking my shoes off!"

People's Most Beautiful Woman of 2013 was in a conference room at NYC's SoHo Apple store Tuesday to talk tech, specifically her updated Goop City Guide travel app. The refurbished version offers Gwyneth's tips to living and traveling well in London, New York, and LA, three cities she's spent considerable time in over her 40 years.

"I do ride the subway!" Gwyneth's favorites in her home city of New York are surprisingly down to earth. "I'm not in New York as much as I used to be, so I ride the subway in London all the time. The last time I rode the subway in New York was a year and a half ago, and the tube in London — last week."

When she's in the Big Apple, there is one place she makes sure to visit. And it doesn't sell clothes. "Murray's Cheese Shop!" she said. "That store is my heaven. I love it. I'm obsessed with it. I go every time I'm in New York. . . . They're like, 'Where's the stinkiest cheese we have? She's here!'"

Gwyneth now spends most of her time in London with Chris and their kids, 8-year-old Apple and 7-year-old Moses. The last month, though, has seen Gwyneth all over the world premiering Iron Man 3 and promoting her book It's All Good. Those jobs, on top of raising a family and keeping up a glamorous social schedule, would seem to have taken her attention away from Goop.

One could probably get hints about finding "balance" between work and family in an old issue of Goop. But finding the hours in a day to work on everything requires serious planning for Gwyneth. "When I'm at home in London, I have a regimented day," she said. "I get up with the kids, I take them to school, then I have an hour to catch up on emails from LA, then I exercise. Then until I pick them up at 3 p.m., I work on Goop. I have a good three hours to just focus on it, to write, to research, to brainstorm, to have meetings, talk about products and collaborations. It's my day job."

Her 10 years in London have rubbed off in other ways, too. "I am a royal fan!" she said. "I like that in the English culture that they have figures, cultural figures that aren't elected and that they've been there for a long time and it's this sort of, it's a specific cultural thing, and having lived there for so long, I understand it a lot better now. I love the royal family. I think it's a really nice part of the culture."

Gwyneth shared even more of her travel tips during her Meet the Developer chat, which was moderated by her friend Jessica Seinfeld. Gwyneth's Goop City Guide is available now in the iTunes store for $4.

Gwyneth Paltrow carried a Céline bag and sported Isabel Marant sneakers and a white IRO leather jacket yesterday when she stepped out in NYC. It's been a whirlwind week so far for the star, who kicked things off at the Met Gala on Monday. Gwyneth wore a pink Valentino gown for the annual fashion event, which she attended with her husband, Chris Martin. On Tuesday, Gwyneth was back in the spotlight for a visit to the SoHo Apple store, where she and her pal Jessica Seinfeld participated in an hour-long Q&A about the new Goop City Guides app. Gwyneth revealed that her daily routine includes writing and researching for Goop while her children, Apple and Moses, are at school. She practiced what she preaches yesterday, wearing an Up by Jawbone wristband after it was featured in Goop last month.

During the chat, Gwyneth also joked that the highlight of her Met Gala night was "going home and taking my shoes off" and spoke about her love for public transportation. Gwyneth said she "rides the subway in London all the time" but that "the last time I rode the subway in New York was a year-and-a-half ago."

Pinterest, Texting, and Skateboarding Rats: Gwyneth's Tech Obsessions

Having now added tech entrepreneur to her accomplishments with the lifestyle website goop and its accompanying travel guide apps, Gwyneth Paltrow was right at home during an Apple Store Meet the Developer panel in New York City last night.

Having now added tech entrepreneur to her accomplishments with the lifestyle website goop and its accompanying travel guide apps, Gwyneth Paltrow was right at home during an Apple Store Meet the Developer panel in New York City last night. We had a chance to talk with the Iron Man 3 star about the gadgets in her carry-on, her favorite iPad games to play with the kids, and the eternal question: text or call?

POPSUGAR: Why did you want to get into this travel app business?

Gwyneth Paltrow: It was a natural extension of what we do at goop anyway, which is curation basically. I love food; I love to travel; I’m a very curious person. I was always the person my friends call and say, "I’m going to New York, where should I do this? I’m going to Paris" . . . whatever. I was always that person. I had books everywhere of things that I loved in various cities and I just thought, "I would love to have it for myself." I started working on the content and I love having a place to go to where it’s places that I love and doctors that are amazing, just all that useful information. When I moved to England, for example, I didn’t know that if you have an emergency, you don’t dial 911. All that stuff. Anything you would need as a traveler.

PS: We’re in the Apple store — are you a texter or a good old-fashioned phone call?

GP: I’ve become a texter. I find it so quick. It’s also made phone calls a lot more special. I do text more than I call, for sure. Now a phone call is a real thing — it’s like, "Are you available to talk?" It’s not like it used to be.

PS: When you travel, what are your must-take travel gadgets?

GP: iPhone and iPad, for sure. I love my iPad mini: I’ve got all my books on there, TV shows — I think that thing is a genius. And my Bose noise-cancelling headphones.

Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals Her Favorite Store — You May Be Surprised

Gwyneth Paltrow is a force unstoppable, with a new cookbook, new movie (ahem, Iron Man 3), another Met Gala appearance, and now a Meet the Developer talk under her belt.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a force unstoppable, with a new cookbook, new movie (ahem, Iron Man 3), another Met Gala appearance, and now a Meet the Developer talk under her belt. While last night's talk at the Apple store in SoHo centered around the new Goop City Guides app, we still squeezed in a few questions about — what else? — fashion and shopping. Keep reading to see what she had to say.

POPSUGAR: One aspect of Goop is shopping, and being online so much, do you find yourself shopping online more than going to stores?

Gwyneth Paltrow: I do shop online more. I also think because I don't have a lot of time to go shopping, it's so great to go on a well-edited website, like SSense, for example, which is my favorite current shopping website. They've done a whole stage of the curation already, so it's easy. You put your kids to bed, you have a glass of wine, and you're like, "Let me see." My husband is like, "Whaaaat!"

Inside Gwyneth Paltrow's Night at the Apple Store

Gwyneth Paltrow was in tech guru mode yesterday to visit the SoHo Apple store in NYC.

Gwyneth Paltrow was in tech guru mode yesterday to visit the SoHo Apple store in NYC. She had the help of her friend Jessica Seinfeld during an hour-long Q&A session about the new Goop City Guides app, which has tips for visitors to NYC, LA, and London. Gwyneth and Jessica tried to focus on business and not laugh too much during the conversation, but Gwyneth quipped about why that would be a challenge. She said, "We are usually stoned. So . . ." Later more giggles were brought on when Jessica said that Gwyneth's most-used word — the F word — has a special place in the Goop app. Gwyneth explained that the expletive is the heading for the "Emergencies" section on her app that has local details on hospitals, doctors, and emergency contacts.

Yesterday's Goop chat was a much more casual atmosphere compared to Gwyneth and Jessica's big night out the evening before. Gwyneth donned a bold pink Valentino gown to attend Monday night's star-studded Met Gala in NYC. If you missed out on fashion's biggest bash, be sure to check out the best Met Gala pictures from this year's event.

What It's Really Like on the Met Gala Red Carpet

Our position on the red carpet at last night's Met Gala afforded the chance to observe what really takes place on the storied red carpet!

Our position on the red carpet at last night's Met Gala afforded the chance to observe what really takes place on the storied red carpet! It was model, designer, and actor madness as guests headed in to celebrate the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute exhibit Punk: Chaos to Couture.

Veteran attendees Gisele Bündchen and her husband, Tom Brady, shared a run-in with first-timer Kim Kardashian on the carpet, while a Valentino-clad Gwyneth Paltrow caught up with her good friend Jessica Seinfeld. Kristen Stewart wasn't bothered by the stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Biel mingling outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, though her pal Jennifer Lawrence did do a bit of socializing with her fellow Dior spokesperson Marion Cotillard.
