Josh Gad and Jenna Elfman play two members of the first family on NBC's 1600 Penn, and the duo stopped by our LA studios recently to talk about their onscreen relationship, as well as their behind-the-scenes bond. The pair also reflected about the unique experience of screening their series for President Barack Obama in the White House recently. We also asked Josh, who cocreated the show with former speechwriters for Obama and Hillary Clinton, if any real-life stories have made their way into the scripts. Check out our chat and catch 1600 Penn tonight on NBC at 9:30 p.m. / 8:30 p.m. Central.
Nicole Richie and Busy Philipps Get Glam to Celebrate Women in TV
Female stars were celebrated at last night's Elle Women in Television event in LA. Famous small-screen actors including Cougar Town's Busy Philipps, wearing Hatch, Revenge's Madeleine Stowe, So You Think You Can Dance's Cat Deeley, and Fashion Star's Nicole Richie turned up for the fashionable event at SoHo House.
Inside, Busy chatted with Joel McHale. The duo took a photo with Joel resting a hand on Busy's growing baby bump. Madeleine mingled with her Revenge costars Margarita Levieva and Christa B. Allen, while Busy met up with Cat Deeley and Sarah Chalke, who guest-starred on Busy's Cougar Town before it moved to TBS. Nicole looked stunning in a white Alaïa dress, which she ditched for a chic black number when she attended a Ferragamo fashion event later in the evening.
Pilot Scoop: 1600 Penn
A new funny family is moving into the White House — and NBC's coveted Thursday night lineup — on Jan. 10. Midseason series 1600 Penn stars Bill Pullman as the presidential patriarch to a wacky First Family, including dim bulb Skip (Josh Gad) and new trophy wife Emily (Jenna Elfman). NBC is airing a preview of the pilot tonight, and we're letting you know whether we're voting yea or nay on the comedy.
- What it's about: The president's earnest-but-thick-headed son, Skip, moves home to the White House following an embarrassing incident at college, where he's been on the seven-year plan for graduation. His family, including his secretly pregnant sister (Martha MacIsaac) and eager-to-please new stepmother, are generally happy to have him back, but his penchant for moronic accidents puts everyone on edge, especially the secret service.
- Where it works: This ensemble is perfectly cast. I love Pullman as President Gilchrist (and if you've watched him as the commander in chief in Independence Day as many times as I have, you'll probably love him, too), but Gad is the heart of this show. Outlandish but fragile, he's the ideal lovable buffoon. It's also nice to see Elfman back in her comedic wheelhouse.
- Where it doesn't: Even though I liked most of the characters, the show didn't make me laugh out loud as much as I thought it would.
- When it's on: Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on NBC
- You might like this show if: You wish Veep was more family-oriented.
Watch a preview and see all the pictures for 1600 Penn after the jump.
Trend Alert: Taxicab-Colored Nails
Forget bold neon or even pastel. This season's yellow nail polish look is a pure, unadulterated take on the bright, cheery hue. Think: taxicab, yellow-jacket, and buttercup-flower yellow. Seen recently on stars like Leona Lewis (left), Jenna Elfman (upper right), and Jessica Szohr (lower right), the warm-colored polish is a great accent to Summer's breezy wardrobe choices. To add a little flair, take a note from Jessica, who opted to pair her two-tone polish look with a reddish-orange lacquer. There's nothing mellow about that yellow. Try: Rescue Beauty Lounge Yellow Fever ($18) or Zoya Creamy ($8).
Celebrities Love Contrast-Collar Blouses — Shop Similar Ones Now!
Contrast-collar blouses have been quite popular since they burst onto the fashion scene, especially among celebrities like Bérénice Bejo, Jamie Chung, and Jenna Elfman. What's great about them is that they can just as easily work at an office environment as they can out on the town. We love that Bérénice chose Carven's colorful zigzag contrast-collar blouse and how she tamed the bright colors via black. Jamie wore her sleeveless contrast-collar blouse in a more party-appropriate way, while Jenna opted to button her blouse all the way for a hint of menswear. Shop our favorite contrast-collar blouses below and wear them in endless ways from work to weekend.

See Which Celebs Are All Over the Hottest Heels in Town: Jimmy Choo's Lance Sandals
There's a new cool-shoe in town, and her name is Lance by Jimmy Choo. Celebs like Malin Akerman, Kristen Bell, and Chloe Moretz have already nabbed a pair and worn them with gorgeous red-carpet looks. Chloe loves the style so much, she's has them in black and nude! What we love about Jimmy Choo's Lance is that it's strappy, just the way a perfectly fancy sandal should be, but its wave-like curvaceousness makes it totally fresh. If you have soirees coming up, consider getting Jimmy Choo's Lance. It comes in black, nude, gold, silver, blue, and orange. Step inside to see celebs wearing the stunning style, then nab a pair or two for yourself. If you want the most wear out of your Choos, we recommend getting the black or nude.
Diane Kruger Stays Short but Fancy For InStyle's Summer Soirée
Diane Kruger rocked a shorts suit last night for a party thrown by InStyle. The bash, held inside West Hollywood's London Hotel, brought out other starlets like Jaime King, Lea Michele, and Jordana Brewster. Diane's ensemble was from her pal Jason Wu's resort collection — see what the other celebs wore to InStyle's Summer soirée. Diane had a night with her lady friends after a few fun outings with her main man, Joshua Jackson. They had a sweet day date last week checking out Captain America, as both Josh and Diane gear up for the return of his show Fringe on Sept. 23.
Gisele Bundchen and Katie Holmes Get Together For Beauty Culture
Katie Holmes and Gisele Bundchen shared a red carpet last night to celebrate the Beauty Culture exhibit, which opens tomorrow, at the Annenberg Space For Photography in LA. It's a collection of images from various photographers, including a snap of Gisele herself, designed to make viewers question the pursuit of beauty. More Hollywood stars came out for the event, including Halle Berry, Ali Larter, and Amber Heard. Supermodel Gisele wrote that she was home in LA after a quick trip to the Amazon, where she was able to do the environmental work that's close to her heart. She posted on her blog, "What a magical place the Amazon is, and so full of history and legends . . . I’m here, sharing my special experience and feelings so we can all think about it. We need and we want to develop, but not at the cost of damaging the planet." The visit was one of philanthropy and fashion, as there was a Gisele Bundchen bikini sighting in Sao Paolo when she took the runway for the Hope Valentine's Day special collection show last week. Katie, meanwhile, is back on the West Coast after a stop in Chicago to honor Oprah and a stint in Florida. She got some swimsuit time in as well when she hit the pool with daughter Suri at her Miami hotel, near where husband Tom Cruise has been working on Rock of Ages.
TSA Tests Jenna Elfman's Breast Milk: OK or Asinine?
No substance (even a mom's milk) gets waved through airport security these days. Actress Jenna Elfman was traveling with her 4-month-old son, Easton, yesterday when she had to hand over the babe's food. JennaOnPurpose tweeted:
Going thru security at airport & TSA really felt the need to "vapor test" the bottle of breast milk. I mean, is there no common sense left?
As a mom do you think this incident can be chalked up to security regulations or do you think it's ridiculous?
LilSugar Exclusive! Actress Jenna Elfman Tweets Motherhood
Jenna Elfman may play the expectant Billie on CBS's Accidentally on Purpose, but in real life she's a mom of two. The actress and her husband, Bodhi, are parents to Story Elias, 2, and Easton Quinn Monroe born in March. The belly Jenna sports in tonight's season finale is not a pillow, it was her son. We recently had the opportunity to ask her our Four Lil Questions via Twitter. Check out what she (@jennaonpurpose) tweeted us about motherhood!
LilSugar: Fill in the blank. You know you’re a mother when ____?
Jenna Elfman: You first experience that spectacular, overwhelming love for your new baby.
LilSugar: Fill in the blank. Why didn’t anybody tell me _____ about motherhood?
Jenna Elfman: That breastfeeding is a learned ability!
LilSugar: What’s the best trick your mama (or parent) taught you?
Jenna Elfman: No tricks, just love and communication.
LilSugar: Are you a helicopter mom or do you believe in free-range kids?
Jenna Elfman: Helicoptering from a distance. Free range until helicoptering is necessary.
Tune in tonight for the show's season finale!
