The stars and friends of HBO gathered in a ballroom at the Beverly Hilton for a Golden Globes afterparty yesterday! The network had a great deal to celebrate, especially Laura Dern's upset in the best actress in a comedy series category for Enlightened. She took home the statue over perennial favorites like 30 Rock's Tina Fey and Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler. Laura let loose at the bash with husband Ben Harper, apparently after reconciling despite announcing plans to divorce in 2010. Best supporting actor in a series Peter Dinklage, from Game of Thrones, was also raising a glass!
Best actor nominee Michael Fassbender stopped by HBO's event as well. The Shame star lost out to The Descendants's George Clooney, but Michael still got acknowledged in Clooney's speech — George made a somewhat off-color reference to Michael's full frontal exposure in Shame! Michael didn't seem to mind the shout-out, and he made the rounds with best actor in a comedy nominee, and fellow Irishman, Brendan Gleeson from The Guard. True Blood hottie Joe Manganiello swung by, too, as did newlywed Eva Amurri Martino with Tim Robbins.
Get a Taste of HBO's Enlightened Before Tonight's Premiere
While the trailer to HBO's Enlightened might make you a little uncomfortable, it's almost impossible to look away from the opening scene. The trailer for the show, which premieres tonight, opens with star Amy (Laura Dern), a health and beauty executive, having a workplace meltdown that is anything but pretty. While it's painful to watch Amy losing it, the scene is also entertaining — I found it hard not to break a smile as the crazed Amy pries the elevator doors open, like some unstoppable creature in a horror movie who refuses to die.
After three months of rehabilitation in a treatment center in Hawaii, Amy returns to work, newly centered and full of new age advice for everyone from her co-workers to her ex-husband (Luke Wilson). Judging from the opening scene, it would probably take more than three months and a couple of Mai Tais to even begin to chip away at Amy's rage, so I'm looking forward to the possibility of more spectacular emotional outbursts from the show's protagonist. (The fact that she rams her car into the back fender of a car in another scene seems promising.) Judge for yourself when you watch the trailer
Would You Rather Talk to a Friend or Therapist?
Last night Laura Dern and Courteney Cox admitted they accompany each other to therapy occasionally. At the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards, Laura said she brings Courteney to therapy sessions because she's better at pinpointing problems than her therapist. Later Courteney said she requests payback by having Laura return the favor — even by bringing her to couples therapy with husband David Arquette.
While bringing a friend to therapy is certainly different than talking to a friend alone, it does bring up a divisive question between those who do therapy and those who don't. So who do you vent your woes to — a friend or therapist?

Laura Dern and Mike White Get Enlightened at HBO
Are enlightened folks the new nurses, when it comes to TV trends? Just a couple of weeks after Showtime announced a religion-themed show called Revelation, HBO is developing a series of its own called Enlightened.
Enlightened, from School of Rock writer (and recent Amazing Race contestant) Mike White, will star Laura Dern as "a formerly self-destructive woman who, after having a spiritual awakening, becomes determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work." White developed the half-hour comedy specifically for Dern, who had told HBO she'd be willing to do a show only if she found the right material. White said:
There are so many dysfunctional types of characters populating cable television, and she is equally as dysfunctional as any of them, but her impulse is to get healthy, to make the world a better place even though it creates havoc.
Between this and Diane Keaton's recently announced comedy project, HBO is definitely lining up some big talent for its new comedies. What do you make of this show? Do you want to see Dern as a comedy series lead?
AFI Awards Keeps Things Rolling
This past week the award season kicked off and on Friday AFI joined in on the mix. They pick their top 10 movies and TV shows of 2008 which include Benjamin Button, Milk, Dark Knight, Mad Men, Lost and The Wire. Emile Hirsch was there to continue to show off his not-so-hot mustache while the ladies from Mad Men, January Jones and Christina Hendricks, kept their classic style off screen as well. Taraji Henson looked beautiful as she represented the Button cast. We're looking forward to more award show excitement tonight so come back later for lots of red carpet fun.

Hollywood's A-List Clique Has a Bikini-Filled NYE in Cabo!
Jennifer Aniston and her large group of celebrity BFFs continued their Cabo vacation this past week, ringing in the New Year with lots of bikinis. Bar Refaeli showed off her award-winning body while Leonardo DiCaprio partied with his boys Kevin Connolly, Lukas Haas and Tobey Maguire. Jennifer Meyer showed off her pregnant belly and the Cox-Arquettes splashed around in the pool with Coco. Miss Aniston had another very successful box office weekend, which she celebrated with a shirtless John Mayer when she wasn't laying out with her girlfriends. This Hollywood group split your votes for who you wanted to celebrate NYE with, but considering they all ended up celebrating together, it's as if they took the top spot.

Jennifer Aniston Answers Cabo's New Year's Call With Friends
It looks like Jennifer Aniston is spending New Year's Eve in one of her favorite places surrounded by people she loves. The woman with the number one movie in the country arrived in Cabo earlier this week with her BFF Courteney Cox and family along with Laura Dern and Ben Harper's family. Considering John Mayer and his brothers flew out to LA just a few days earlier, we wouldn't be surprised to see the boys ring in 2009 in Mexico as well. Either way, Jennifer couldn't ask for a better end to 2008 and would probably love nothing more than spending Jan. 1 poolside showing off one of her many bikinis.

Stars Get Glamorous For Courteney & Demi's Reel Moments
Courteney Cox and Demi Moore's friends and family came out to support their directorial debuts last night at the Director's Guild of America headquarters in LA. Courteney's The Monday Before Thanksgiving and Demi's Streak are two of three short films, which you can watch here, produced for Glamour's Annual Reel Moments event. Courteney said she would love to be a director again, while Demi was happy to work with her daughter, Rumer. Amid more rumors of recent romantic dinners with John Mayer, Reel Moment alum Jennifer Aniston smiled and posed with her best friend. Ashton and Tallulah cheered on Demi as just two of the scores of loved ones and A-Listers who came out to celebrate the project along with the new directors.
