Madonna has been confirmed to be the 2012 Super Bowl halftime performer, which will make for one monumental weekend for the pop star. Her latest directorial project, W.E., opens two days before the big sports event in 2012, though she's already on the screening circuit for the film. Check out Madonna in New York last night and hear more details about her Super Bowl gig in PopSugar Rush.
If you saw The King's Speech last year and were intrigued by the storyline between the king's brother King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, then you'll probably be interested in the trailer for W.E. Madonna directed and cowrote the film, which depicts the relationship between the former king who abdicated the throne to be with the woman he loved, American socialite Simpson. It's told in flashback through a modern-day woman in New York, Wallie Winthrop (Abbie Cornish), who is reading the letters of the old lovers. Wallie experiences a parallel to their torrid affair when she embarks on her own with a Russian security guard (Oscar Isaac).
The trailer makes the King Edward and Wallis Simpson story look heartbreakingly romantic, though I found myself less interested in Wallie's romance happening in the present day. I'm also curious to see how Madonna has handled the film, and though we have to wait until February 2012 to see it, you can watch the trailer when you keep reading.
Madonna and her daughter Lourdes Leon made an appearance at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC on Saturday night. They held auditions to find a new dancer to join Madonna on her upcoming world tour and chose one lucky winner out of a group of contestants. Madonna's boyfriend Brahim Zaibat was also on hand for the event after the duo attended Kabbalah services earlier in the day. Madonna wrapped up the night by showing off her own moves in front of the crowd and even gave a nod to her recently leaked single by spelling out some of the lyrics. A demo version of Madonna's "Give Me All Your Love" hit the Internet last week, months before she intended to release the track. Her manager Guy Oseary tweeted that Madonna's "true fans" wouldn't spread the tune and pleaded for whoever is responsible to "please stop."
If Madonna's Material Girl collection was a little too young for your taste, you might be interested in her upcoming line, called Truth or Dare — the same name as the performer's '91 documentary film about her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour. "Over the past several years, I have been approached countless times to create my own brand," said Madonna. "The timing is right and I have found great partners in Iconix who can help translate my vision to reality." According to sources, the Truth or Dare collection, which will be available exclusively at Macy’s for the initial debut in 2012, is geared toward fashionable ladies between the ages of 27-50 "who have a timeless style and an innate sex appeal." The initial launch will include footwear, handbags, intimates, accessories, and fragrance. Photos aren't available yet, but judging from Madonna's iconic style, we're guessing it's going to feature some dazzling cross necklaces, fishnet tights, and chic pumps. Take a look at the slideshow to see some of Madonna's chic accessory choices.
It's official: Madonna is launching her first perfume. Dubbed Truth or Dare ($39 to $68) by Madonna, the scent pays homage to her 1992 documentary, Madonna: Truth or Dare, but it also pays homage to her mom, who passed away when Madonna was just 5.
"My oldest memory of my mother is her perfume. I carry it with me everywhere. She always smelled like gardenias and tuberose, an intoxicating mixture [that was] feminine and mysterious. I wanted to re-create this scent, but with something fresh and new about it as well. Something honest and yet daring — hence the name Truth or Dare," Madonna told WWD. To see more, keep reading.
Non-football fans have often taken interest in the Super Bowl because of the halftime show, which usually draws big name musical acts. While the NFL hasn't confirmed next February's performer, rumors are circulating that Madonna will headline the halftime show of the 2012 championship game. She hasn't released a new album in a while, but she's been known for her provocative performances and videos, which could make for good water cooler conversations the next morning. Would you tune in to watch Madonna if she performed on the Super Bowl stage next year?
Fall officially starts tomorrow, but we're not ready to give up the warm days of Summer just yet. There were so many fun celebrity moments in the last few months, and we spotted lots of stars getting out of town to enjoy tropical vacations with their friends and family. Beyoncé Knowles recently celebrated her birthday on a yacht in Croatia while Gwyneth Paltrow spent a bikini beach day in Porto Cervo, Italy. There are so many more getaways to check out so take a look back at all the places celebrities visited as we say goodbye to the sunny Summer of 2011!
There's lots of news in the olfactory arena these days. It seems that Madonna (not for the first time, either) is rumored to be in talks with celebrity eau giant Coty to make her own fragrance. Meanwhile, Estée Lauder has already signed a deal with designer label Marni to create a scent, and the brand is also supposedly in talks with Tory Burch about a perfume. (Although there's also word that Burch may be set to make a deal with Coty.)
While companies have wanted to make a Madonna perfume for decades now, her demands have surpassed what any could match. She was rumored to be signing deals in 1997 and 2007, but neither ever came to fruition. This time could be different, though, since she and daughter Lourdes Leon have their Material Girl line, which already includes makeup and even body spray. If a scent does make it to market, let's all hope it's as high-quality as Madge herself.
The Venice Film Festival kicked off last Wednesday with George Clooney's self-directed political drama The Ides of March opening the competition, and since then many of Hollywood's hottest stars have also premiered upcoming projects in front of Italian audiences. Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon were among the latest to roll through over the weekend, along with Colin Firth, James Franco, Michael Fassbender, and others. There's more to come, but for now click through to see all the beautiful fashion and famous faces taking Venice by storm!
Madonna and her kids Lourdes Leon and Rocco Ritchie arrived at Heathrow Airport on their way to NYC on Saturday. They were joined by Mercy and David and Madonna's boyfriend Brahim Zaibat for their recent Mediterranean vacation, which included Jet Skiing in Antibes and plenty of time in the sun. Madonna later switched gears to attend the Venice Film Festival, where she promoted her directorial project, W.E.. She hit the red carpet in a glamorous Vionnet gown for the film's premiere and was back in a dressed-up look for the Gucci Award For Women in Cinema Soiree on Friday. Madonna presented Jessica Chastain with the night's honor before packing up her family and heading to the states. Despite her busy travel schedule, Madonna found time to congratulate her ex Guy Ritchie on the birth of his child with girlfriend Jacqui Ainsley after he reportedly called her to share the exciting news.
