Matthew Lillard Says His Own Awkward Phase Inspired His Directorial Debut

Matthew Lillard is adding yet another role to his résumé.

Matthew Lillard is adding yet another role to his résumé. The Descendants actor and father of three is celebrating the release of his directorial debut, Fat Kid Rules the World, a coming-of-age story based on a book he discovered a decade ago. We recently welcomed Matthew to our LA studios to talk about how his own awkward preteen years made him connect with the story and what, if any, fears he harbored as a first-time filmmaker. Matthew also opened up about how his kids have changed his outlook on life and work and why he couldn't wait to become a husband and father. Find Fat Kid Rules the World in select theaters now and via On Demand and iTunes starting Oct. 25.

Courteney Cox

Courteney Hits Scream 4's After Party With Josh, Kristen, Dax, and More Cougar Town Costars

The cast of Scream 4 kept the good times rolling last night, heading from their movie premiere to an afterparty at The Redbury Hotel.

The cast of Scream 4 kept the good times rolling last night, heading from their movie premiere to an afterparty at The Redbury Hotel. Courteney Cox stuck close to her costars in the movie, like Neve Campbell, Anna Paquin, Emma Roberts, and Kristen Bell, but she also had her small-screen buddies on hand showing their support. Her friends from Cougar Town like Busy Philipps, Ian Gomez, and her shirtless and bikini-filled vacation buddy Josh Hopkins were on hand to toast Courteney's foray back to the big screen. Even Isla Fisher turned out for the bash during a breaking hanging with her baby daughter Elula.

Hilary Swank

Charlize and Hilary Don't Fear The Reaping

It was a meeting of the Academy Award Winning Best Actresses at The Reaping premiere in LA last night. Hilary, who looked surprisingly glamorous (she's def got the sexy in her) stars in the horror film while Charlize was just there to look hot. Okay, okay, she was probably there to see the movie, too. But that top is pretty risque. Kim Stewart and Matthew Lillard were there to. How's that for random?

Tom Cruise

Tom Keeps His Charity Promises

If rumors of unrest at home are true, you would never know it by looking at Tom and Katie on the red carpet last night.

If rumors of unrest at home are true, you would never know it by looking at Tom and Katie on the red carpet last night. The two looked genuinely happy and in love while out at the Mentor LA's Promise Gala honoring Tom. Cruise was commended as one of the most important fund raisers for the nonprofit, which helps out impoverished schools and neighborhoods in LA. Ashton & Demi were out to support the cause, too, along with Tom's buddies, JJ Abrams and Cameron Crowe. Ever the philanthropist, Orlando Bloom suited up and certainly continued his streak of looking hot. The whole group looks like they were having a great time on the red carpet and we're sure the fun didn't stop there.

Tom was gracious in accepting his honor and spoke about the importance of mentoring. Once again he pointed out how he was raised by a single mom and how she was his first mentor. Say what you will about crazy Cruise but he still has a great reputation for doing good deeds. For more pics of Tom, Katie & Co, just read more

What Love Is: The Year's Worst-Looking Film

Most likely, you haven't heard about What Love Is, and that's probably because the people involved are ashamed.

Most likely, you haven't heard about What Love Is, and that's probably because the people involved are ashamed. Well, I'm here to inform you about it and to speculate as to how movies like this ever get made. It truly baffles me that, at the completion of this movie, after everything wrapped and the editing was done, someone sat back and said, "Yup, that's it: Perfection!"

The most hilarious part is that, at some point, the filmmakers had extremely overzealous hopes for this movie, which will open quietly this Friday. Allow me to present this nugget from the production notes:

"What Tom says to Sara in that final moment will not only go down as one of the all-time classic moments in filmmaking history, but it will not leave a single dry eye in the house."

Um. Not likely.

That's not even the half of it, so read more
