Marion Cotillard Admits She Almost Quit Acting at Her Rust and Bone Premiere

Marion Cotillard was honored last night during AFI Fest in LA.

Marion Cotillard was honored last night during AFI Fest in LA. Her latest movie, Rust and Bone, premiered during the annual film festival, and before the screening, Marion was chosen for a special tribute. The Oscar-winner reflected on her career as an actress as she accepted the honor. She told the audience she almost quit the profession completely in her 20s because she was frustrated by the unsatisfying roles that were coming her way. Before she moved on, her agent convinced her to take one last meeting, which turned out to be with director Tim Burton. Marion was cast in his film Big Fish, and she said that the chance to work with a creative force like Tim renewed her passion for her craft.

Marion wore a Dior gown last night and posed for pictures on the red carpet with her costar Matthias Schoenaerts. Rust and Bone is already receiving great reviews and earned an overwhelming round of applause at last night's screening. The movie interweaves the stories of Marion's character, a whale trainer, and Matthias's, a single father, as their paths unexpectedly cross.

Marion Cotillard and her handsome Rust and Bone costar Matthias Schoenaerts had a full first day at the Toronto International Film Festival, going right from press to their red carpet premiere on Thursday evening. In the movie, Marion plays a woman who loses her legs in an accident, and immediately after the first press screening Oscar buzz kicked in for the actress. The very handsome but less well-known Matthias also quickly garnered acclaim for his performance. Marion spoke about the sex scenes and role, saying, "The sex and the flesh is really part of the story, and it had to be in the movie. You know when you rediscover your body, love, life . . . there's something very deep and strong, and both characters are, I think, very sexy." Marion and Matthias stuck together at their official red carpet premiere and afterparty. Across town, Marion's The Dark Knight Rises costar Joseph Gordon-Levitt was showing off his own latest, Looper, and the two had a chance to connect at LAX before heading on their own TIFF journeys.
