Naomi Campbell Is Suing Over Elephant Polo Accusations

Naomi Campbell is suing The Daily Telegraph over an article last month that claimed she made plans for an elephant polo tournament in India.

Naomi Campbell is suing The Daily Telegraph over an article last month that claimed she made plans for an elephant polo tournament in India.

Campbell had reportedly organized the games as part of a lavish birthday party she threw for her boyfriend, Russian real estate mogul Vladimir Doronin, at a 15th-century fort in Jodhpur last month.

"The simple truth is that there was no plan for elephant polo," said the supermodel's lawyer Gideon Benaim. "Ms. Campbell did not cancel it because it was never going to happen in the first place. We have as yet no idea where the false claims originated from; perhaps the Telegraph will let us know in due course."

The real luxuries at the party included a live performance by Diana Ross and private planes chartered to fly in guests like Kate Moss and Edward Enninful. But animal rights groups blasted Campbell when the Telegraph claimed the party would also include elephant polo — with three celebrity attendees to a team — and Campbell roundly denied the allegations. The paper has since removed the story from its website.

It's not known what kind of damages Campbell's suit seeks, but when she sued The Daily Mirror for invasion of privacy in 2001, the case was eventually settled for £500,000 —about $806,000 at current exchange.

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell Interview Cover December 2012

Supermodel friends Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell have reunited for their first joint cover since the February 2008 issue of Vogue Paris.

Moss and a bare-chested Campbell cover the December 2012 issues of Interview Russia and Interview Germany, photographed in black and white by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. That both the models and the pictures are black and white underscores a portion of their joint interview in the magazine. In an excerpt from it, Moss asks Campbell whether being one of the most visible black models in the world felt "like a battle you were fighting?"

"I can't say that the word battle is the right word but it definitely felt like it was an uphill struggle for something," Campbell says. "I felt like I had to do what I had to do for my race and to keep awareness out there."

Herein, a peek at the images. Warning, some may be unsuitable for work.

Fashion Cartoons From Barneys & Disney Electric Holiday

Barneys won't debut anything from its holiday retail project until Wednesday, but stills from the coordinating film reveal a host of fashion people turned into cartoon characters.

In addition to the list of boldface names already included in Electric Holiday, the Disney animated film will feature animated versions of Linda Evangelista, Cathy Horyn, Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Franca Sozzani, Anna Dello Russo (at left), and Nicolas Ghesquière, among others. All of them participate in some way in Minnie Mouse's ultimate daydream: to walk down the runway during Paris Fashion Week.

The short film follows Minnie Mouse doing just that. After falling in love with a Lanvin dress she sees in a store window, Minnie Mouse slips into a reverie about wearing the dress in the City of Light. During her daydream, she stops to pose for Juergen Teller and Mario Sorrenti and rubs elbows with Carine Roitfeld.

A sneak peek at the film below, and a look at stills of all the fashion people here in the gallery.

Proceeds from the sale of each $35 shirt will go to Fashion For Relief, Campbell's not-for-profit organization that supports humanitarian causes. Although red lipstick is always a popular color, it gets a lot more love come Fall. Case in point: these three ladies who were all fans of the shade this week. Naomi Campbell paired her scarlet lipstick with some gloss and heavy bangs, while Sophia Bush opted for a matte shade and soft waves. And Janelle Monáe stunned in her signature vintage look, complete with bright red lipstick. This cherry-red color is always a good choice, but who wore it best this week?

More Industry Names Approached For Naomi Campbell's Modeling Show (Updated)

Both Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen have been asked to be on Naomi Campbell's modeling reality show, The Face.

Both Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen have been asked to be on Naomi Campbell's modeling reality show, The Face.

While it's unclear how the designers would participate in the show, a source told Page Six that they'd both been approached about possible involvement. This news comes a month after the announcement that Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova had signed on as cast members.

The show, which is scheduled to start airing in 2013, will follow the three as they scout their own teams of aspiring catwalkers from across the United States. Then, the supermodels will guide their teams through challenges including runway shows, photo shoots, and commercials. The prize for winning the competition is a contract to be a brand ambassador for a well-known company.

"SO HAPPY to tell you, along with Naomi Campbell & Karolina Kurkova I will be one of three model mentors on 'The Face'!" Rocha tweeted in July, along with a link to a post about the show on her personal blog. "Naomi, Karolina and I will be introducing the girls to some of the very best photographers, stylists and designers in the fashion world," she wrote. "As mentors to the girls we hope to impart valuable lessons and skills that will help them through their challenges, giving them an accurate idea of what it takes to have a career as a model and be the face of a brand."

Campbell, Kurkova, and Rocha will be joined by host Nigel Barker, who left his position as a judge on America's Next Top Model last year.
