Annette will be remembered as one of the most popular original Mouseketeers during her stint on The Mickey Mouse Club in the '50s, as well as the eponymous "girl next door" thanks to her beach party movie roles in the '60s with Frankie Avalon. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the early '90s and in 1993 wrote her autobiography, A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes, in which she detailed her battle against MS and her search for a cure. Will the Sad News About Maggie Rizer's Pup Make You Nervous to Fly?

It's every traveling pet owner's worst fear: handing over your best friend to the airlines and learning on the other end of your journey that the worst has happened. Model Maggie Rizer, her husband, and her young son took every precaution when preparing for their flight from New York City to San Francisco, getting 2-year-old Golden Retriever Bea a physical exam, obtaining the proper carrier recommended by the airline, and providing plenty of cold water. But upon reaching the cargo terminal on the West Coast, they were nonchalantly informed by United Airlines staff that Bea had died on the flight. A necropsy later informed the grief-stricken pet parents that the four-legged member of their family had suffered heat stroke.
Rizer's tragic story is certainly not the first incident of a pet death's in the skies. But it's yet another reminder that — regardless of how much we prepare our furry loved ones — we are putting great trust in the airlines to care for our pets while we aren't there to supervise. So we're curious:
All Dogs Go to Heaven: Remembering Queen Elizabeth's Corgi Monty
He entertained us with a paw-some salutation for James Bond during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics, and this weekend Great Britain's royal palace released the sad news that Monty, one of Queen Elizabeth II's beloved Pembroke Welsh Corgis, has passed away.
A celebrated animal lover, the queen has been flanked by this smiley-faced breed since 1944, when she received a puppy named Susan for her 18th birthday. Since then, Susan's progeny of Corgis and Dorgis (Dachshund/Corgi mixes) have accompanied their regal matriarch around the royal family's many homes and even on the queen's honeymoon! Today, Monty is survived by the queen's two Corgis, Willow and Holly, and two Dorgis, Candy and Vulcan. To memorialize this favorite royal pet, we're taking a look back at the queen and her dogs throughout the years. Rest in peace, little one!
