Marion Cotillard Dons Dior For Her Tokyo Premiere

Marion Cotillard took to the red carpet today in Japan for the Tokyo premiere of her film Rust and Bone.

Marion Cotillard took to the red carpet today in Japan for the Tokyo premiere of her film Rust and Bone. Marion also debuted her edgy new fringe haircut at the event, where the actress received a bouquet of flowers and spoke to the crowd before the film's screening.

Marion chose a strapless floral dress from Christian Dior's pre-Fall 2013 collection for the occasion, which is fitting since she is the face of Lady Dior. Marion has been linked to the French label since 2008, but this time around, she got hands on with handbags. Dior released a behind-the-scenes video of Marion's creative process while designing her very own carryall, called the 360° Bag.

Marion Cotillard Admits She Almost Quit Acting at Her Rust and Bone Premiere

Marion Cotillard was honored last night during AFI Fest in LA.

Marion Cotillard was honored last night during AFI Fest in LA. Her latest movie, Rust and Bone, premiered during the annual film festival, and before the screening, Marion was chosen for a special tribute. The Oscar-winner reflected on her career as an actress as she accepted the honor. She told the audience she almost quit the profession completely in her 20s because she was frustrated by the unsatisfying roles that were coming her way. Before she moved on, her agent convinced her to take one last meeting, which turned out to be with director Tim Burton. Marion was cast in his film Big Fish, and she said that the chance to work with a creative force like Tim renewed her passion for her craft.

Marion wore a Dior gown last night and posed for pictures on the red carpet with her costar Matthias Schoenaerts. Rust and Bone is already receiving great reviews and earned an overwhelming round of applause at last night's screening. The movie interweaves the stories of Marion's character, a whale trainer, and Matthias's, a single father, as their paths unexpectedly cross.

Marion Cotillard Brings French Glamour to the London Film Festival

Marion Cotillard premiered Rust and Bone Saturday night at the BFI London Film Festival in a little black Dior dress. Keeping her company on the red carpet was her leading man Matthias Schoenaerts and their director Jacques Audiard. Marion kept the public appearances coming yesterday, too, stepping out in a printed Azzaro frock for a Q&A session at the BFI Southbank Centre. We caught up with Marion back in May at the Cannes Film Festival to learn about the film, in which she plays a woman who overcomes a great deal after losing both legs in an accident. Marion thinks she's like her Rust and Bone character, and told us, "I definitely have strength . . . it would be a long conversation on how strength is manifested in yourself, but there's very few things that — actually, I don't think there's one thing I could think about that could put me down."

TIFF on the Scene: Marion Cotillard Shows Off Emotional Rust and Bone

Marion Cotillard and her handsome Rust and Bone costar Matthias Schoenaerts had a full first day at the Toronto International Film Festival, going right from press to their red carpet premiere on Thursday evening.

Marion Cotillard and her handsome Rust and Bone costar Matthias Schoenaerts had a full first day at the Toronto International Film Festival, going right from press to their red carpet premiere on Thursday evening. In the movie, Marion plays a woman who loses her legs in an accident, and immediately after the first press screening Oscar buzz kicked in for the actress. The very handsome but less well-known Matthias also quickly garnered acclaim for his performance. Marion spoke about the sex scenes and role, saying, "The sex and the flesh is really part of the story, and it had to be in the movie. You know when you rediscover your body, love, life . . . there's something very deep and strong, and both characters are, I think, very sexy." Marion and Matthias stuck together at their official red carpet premiere and afterparty. Across town, Marion's The Dark Knight Rises costar Joseph Gordon-Levitt was showing off his own latest, Looper, and the two had a chance to connect at LAX before heading on their own TIFF journeys.

Rust & Bone: Marion Cotillard Finds Love Through Tragedy

Marion Cotillard stars as a killer-whale trainer in Rust & Bone, a dramatic love story from French director Jacques Audiard.

Marion Cotillard stars as a killer-whale trainer in Rust & Bone, a dramatic love story from French director Jacques Audiard. Admittedly, that setup doesn't quite sound like Oscar bait, but the story takes a twist when Cotillard's character, Stéphanie, loses her legs in an accident on the job. As she's struggling with this life-changing occurrence, the tragedy serves to bring her closer to a former lover, Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts).

Though there are no words, the trailer is a gripping preview of what could be a visually — and emotionally — arresting film. The images of the shattered tank and Stéphanie sobbing in the hospital are enough to pull at my heartstrings, and Cotillard is already garnering award buzz for her performance. The movie opens on Nov. 16, but you can watch the trailer after the jump.

Marion Cotillard Talks Rust and Bone and Loving Her Baby Son Marcel

Marion Cotillard is at Cannes this week chatting up her latest movie Rust and Bone.

Marion Cotillard is at Cannes this week chatting up her latest movie Rust and Bone. She wore Dior last night for the red carpet premiere of the film, and posed alongside costars Matthias Schoenaerts, young actor Armand Verdure, and director Jacques Audiard. The picture is ready for audiences after Marion and Matthias worked on it together last Fall in the South of France. Marion plays Stéphanie in the film, a killer-whale trainer whose life is changed after a tragic accident. So far, the Rust and Bone reviews are positive.

We caught up with the actress today at a press event this morning. Marion chatted about getting into the mindset to play Stéphanie, as well as about her career. She also touched on how life is different now that she's a mom to 1-year-old Marcel, and whether or not she consults with her husband, director and actor Guillaume Canet, before making a big career decision. Marion also gushed about her Inception and Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. She said:

  • On motherhood changing her approach to work: "When I am in the character, it's completely the character. But usually when I work, I create this environment — especially that most of the time I am out of Paris and France — so I can create a new apartment in a new house or a hotel room. I can create a special environment that I need. I will entirely go back to myself when the movie is finished . . . [but during production] someone is sharing my body and is there most of the time. With my son it's impossible to take someone else home . . . There is this human being that I love more than anything, and who needs me."
  • On consulting with Guillaume before accepting a role: "It's usually all for myself. If I need advice, I will obviously ask the people I love and the people I trust. Usually, I create my own little world and deal with it."
  • On it being easier to act in French: "To play in French is definitely less demanding than playing in English with Polish accent or Italian or even French accent. Simply because I don't have to think about how I say the words. I don't have to think about, 'Does it sound French?' Because it will obviously sound French! But I love working in English. It's very, very interesting."
  • On being tough like her character, Stéphanie: "I definitely have strength . . . it would be a long conversation on how strength is manifested in yourself, but there's very few things that — actually I don't think there's one thing I could think about that could put me down."
  • On working with Christopher Nolan: "I really love this guy. He's so, so smart. He is such an amazing director and author. It's very rare to work with a director in Hollywood, especially on big, big movies like Batman, who not only directs the movie but writes the script. It's very, very unusual . . . It's massive, but it's also very, very intimate. I love this about him. He loves real things, real connections, real feelings."
  • On using her celebrity to spread awareness about the environment: "If you manage to spread what you think — because you think what you think is right — it's a beautiful thing to meet people who are not aware. Because there are still people who are not aware of what we are going through and what the world is going through. It's a good thing to share, and to change, step by step."
