Sofia Coppola was out with her fiancé, Thomas Mars, last night before hanging out with her youngest daughter, Cosima, today in Bernalda, Italy. Sofia, Thomas, Cosima, and Cosima's big sister, Romy, are in the small Italian town for Sofia and Thomas's Saturday wedding. The place holds special significance for the Coppolas — Sofia's great-grandparents used to live there. The Coppola-Mars family headed to Italy late last week, where they've been enjoying dinners out and some rest and relaxation as they prep for this weekend's nuptials. Sofia donned a strapless swimsuit as she spent time with Cosima and Romy at the beach, and her father, director Francis Ford Coppola, has been spotted in Bernalda, along with Sofia's brother Roman Coppola. Sofia is reported to be wearing Azzedine Alaïa for the big moment, which will take place in the gardens of Palazzo Margherita.
Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars Get an Early Start on Their Weekend Wedding Festivities
Sofia Coppola, her fiancé, Thomas Mars, and their oldest daughter, 5-year-old Romy Mars, celebrated the Festa di San Bernardino in Matera, Italy, last night. Sofia was presented with a special honor by the Lucania region's officials and had her brother Roman Coppola by her side as they enjoyed an evening out. The family is counting down the days to Sofia and Thomas's wedding, which is taking place in the small town of Beranda this Saturday. Sofia first met Thomas when they worked together on The Virgin Suicides soundtrack in the late '90s, and the pair have been collaborators in both work and love for six years. They welcomed their second daughter, Cosima, last May, and Thomas's band Phoenix has provided music for several of Sofia's films, from Lost in Translation to Somewhere. The pair's Saturday nuptials in the gardens of Palazzo Margherita are expected to be an intimate affair for close friends and family, with lots of free-flowing wine from her and her father Francis Ford Coppola's vineyards!
Sofia Coppola Hits the Beach in a Bathing Suit With Her Babies Just Days Before Her Wedding
Sofia Coppola and her family, daughters Cosima and Romy as well as father Francis Ford Coppola, hit the beach in Italy last week ahead of this Saturday's exciting wedding. Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars are set to get married on Aug. 27 in the quiet Italian town of Bernalda, where her great-grandparents used to live. Sofia and Thomas, who is the front man for the band Phoenix, have been together for six years and have been busy raising Romy, born in 2006, and Cosima, born in 2010. Sofia is rumored to have chosen Azzedine Alaïa as the designer for her big day. If she's going for a strapless gown, she is doing a good job avoiding tan lines in her one-piece swimsuit. Whatever Sofia wears down the aisle, she looks like a perfectly relaxed bride-to-be surrounded by her closest family before celebrating her and Thomas's love this weekend.
Sofia Coppola Hangs With Her Dad and Daughter Ahead of Her Italian Wedding on the 27th
Sofia Coppola was in the Italian town of Bernalda, the town her great-grandparents used to live in, yesterday with her youngest daughter, Cosima, and dad, Francis. Cosima, who was born in May 2010, was out with her mom while her 5-year-old big sister, Romy, stayed home. The Coppola gang is in Europe prepping for Sofia to marry Thomas Mars. Sofia's been dating the Phoenix frontman for six years, raising their two daughters while balancing busy music and film careers. Thomas and Sofia are planning to have the event be a small one for family. The civil aspect of the proceedings will take place in the garden of Palazzo Margherita, a 19th-century villa on the main drag of Corso Umberto that Francis has been restoring. After the nuptials, the Palazzo will open as a five-star eco- resort with eight guest rooms. It will also have a wine bar that stocks vintages from Francis's estate in Napa!
Sofia Coppola Sets a Wedding Date
>> It was confirmed earlier this Summer that Sofia Coppola planned to wed her longtime boyfriend, Phoenix's Thomas Mars, this month — but now, there's an exact date: Saturday, Aug. 27. The couple plan to hold an "intimate family wedding" in Bernalda — the hometown of Coppola's great-grandparents — with the civil ceremony celebrated in the garden of Palazzo Margherita, a 19th-century southern Italian villa her father Francis Ford Coppola has been renovating. “The ceremony will mark the end of renovations at the palace, which will soon be inaugurated as a resort, open to the public,” said Coppola pere’s great-nephew Gaetano Russo who, on the day of the wedding, plans to screen scenes from both Sofia and Francis Ford's movies on the facades of about 10 buildings in the village.
There still hasn't been any wedding dress designer confirmation — Marc Jacobs, Coppola's close friend and the most likely candidate for the job, seemed unsure while denying that he was doing the honors back in June, and after Coppola attended Azzedine Alaia's couture show last month, rumors circulated that Alaia may be the dress's designer.
Sofia Coppola On Doing Her Own Fashion Line
>> The bags Sofia Coppola did in collaboration with Louis Vuitton in 2008 have attained a cult following, and the brand's Resort 2012 collection, of which she consulted on all aspects, is sure to, as well. But would Coppola ever consider doing a fashion line on her own? “No, no,” she replied. “I really respect and love working with Julie [de Libran, Vuitton's studio design director] and the whole team because they are so knowledgeable. I don’t have the patience and the years you would need to really study and learn about all of this. It’s like doing a film when I work with experts in each field, the cinematographer, the costume designer. They all have the knowledge about that and then I can just say what I have in mind.” [WWD]
Louis Vuitton Resort 2012
>> Sofia Coppola has collaborated with Louis Vuitton on a capsule collection of shoes and bags in the past, but for the brand's Resort 2012 collection, her sphere of influence was taken a bit further. Coppola chose the venue for the presentation — the Pool Room of the Four Seasons Hotel in New York — and served as "official muse" for the collection — which was based on her personal style — consulting on all areas of design.
“Oh my God, for me it’s really fun,” Coppola said. “I’m happy to give my opinion of, I wish I could have this or that.” The collection's Eiffel Tower print, for instance, is a nod to her current hometown of Paris. "I told [Vuitton design director Julie De Libran] I want a new wardrobe,” Coppola added — and thus, the collection is based on her favorite shapes, including a denim tunic dress.

Is Marc Jacobs Designing Sofia Coppola's Wedding Dress?
>> Tonight, Sofia Coppola will present longtime friend Marc Jacobs with the CFDA's honorary Lifetime Achievement Award, wearing a "little white dress" from Jacobs's Resort collection. But will the designer be working on another white dress for Coppola, who is getting married next month? “No,” he told The Cut, "perhaps a little skittishly," according to the reporter. Jacobs continued: "I had heard that she was getting married and, I mean, I don’t know. Yeah, I don’t know.” [The Cut]
