What Is the Best Romantic Comedy of 2010?

Romantic comedies are the refreshing confections of the movie world — light, airy, and fun (and sometimes just a little bit cheesy).

Romantic comedies are the refreshing confections of the movie world — light, airy, and fun (and sometimes just a little bit cheesy). Whether you love them or loathe them, Hollywood cranked out more sweet stories of love with a touch of laughs this year, some a bit better than others. What 2010 romantic comedy is your favorite?

What to Rent: New DVD Tuesday

I have plenty of DVD helpings to keep you occupied through the weekend (even beyond!).

I have plenty of DVD helpings to keep you occupied through the weekend (even beyond!). In addition to these big releases, season three of Gossip Girl and season two of 90210 also hit shelves today, so it's easy to play catch up before Fall TV starts back. Better get started!

The Back-Up Plan
Jennifer Lopez tries to de-glamorize herself as an expectant mom trying to make it work with a new guy (oh, and he's not her sperm donor, a la The Switch). Alex O'Loughlin stars as said dreamboat, but even the attractiveness of the two stars can't give this rom-com any sense of Hollywood escapism. Instead, it harps on the difficulties of pregnancy and relationships (whenever it's not relying on cliched birthing gags). DVD extras include a few deleted scenes.

Lost: The Complete Collection
If you've been feeling Lost withdrawal like I have, the season six DVD and the full six-season collection are both now available so you can pick apart every Easter egg from the very beginning. However, if you don't feel like re-watching the same old stuff, then I have one word for you: extras. The bonus features on the box set include over 30 hours of material (that means the Lost epilogue!), a behind-the-scenes tour of Oahu where the show filmed, a tribute to the past characters who died on the island, and "Lost Slapdowns" featurettes starring celebrity Lost fans like the Muppets. Hooray!

In what may be my favorite scene of The Back-up Plan, Zoe's absolutely adorable disabled doggie snatches her pregnancy stick and holds on to it with his teeth while her fella waits outside the restroom.

Though the situation is particularly comical (and dramatized), pet lovers are never strangers to embarrassing moments. So, I want to know: What's the most humiliating thing your pet has every done? Robert Downey Jr

Box Office: Iron Man 2 Skyrockets to No. 1

Robert Downey Jr. can add yet another film to his long list of successes: Iron Man 2.

Robert Downey Jr. can add yet another film to his long list of successes: Iron Man 2. The film handily earned the top spot at the box office this weekend with an impressive $133.6 million — that makes it the fifth-highest opening gross in Hollywood history! The weekend earnings also bested that of the original Iron Man, which raked in $98.6 million for its opening weekend back in 2008.

Obviously that means that last week's champ A Nightmare on Elm Street fell to second place with only $9.1million in ticket sales (sorry, Freddy). It was followed by How to Train Your Dragon in third with $6.7 million, Date Night in fourth with $5.3 million, and The Back-up Plan in fifth with $4.3 million.

Box Office: Freddy Terrorizes the Competition

Proof that people love a good scare: despite what the critics said, A Nightmare on Elm Street easily won the box office race over the weekend, bringing in $32.2 million.

Proof that people love a good scare: despite what the critics said, A Nightmare on Elm Street easily won the box office race over the weekend, bringing in $32.2 million. It's the second highest opening in the film's nine-movie franchise, only behind 2003's Freddy vs. Jason. Coming in a distant second was last week's champ, How to Train Your Dragon, which earned $10.8 million.

Date Night held onto its third place spot with $7.6 million, while The Back-up Plan dropped to fourth with $7.4 million. Finishing out the top five was Brendan Frasier's family film Furry Vengeance which eked out a measly $6.5 million for its debut.

Jennifer Lopez was a showstopper in her dramatic black dress and exaggerated up hairdo on the pink carpet at last night's London premiere of The Back-up Plan. She's wrapping up the European leg of her promotional tour after bringing the film to Paris and Madrid earlier this week. She was accompanied by her handsome costar Alex O'Loughlin and yesterday she also shared billing with a very sexy group including Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Pattinson for her ninth appearance on the Most Beautiful People list. With a new movie, fabulous designer wardrobe, and hot dance moves this year is shaping up to be a winner for JLo.

Jennifer Lopez was in black yesterday to finish up promoting The Back-up Plan in France, and last night she took off for Spain with a sleepy Emme in her arms. J Lo has been breaking out the high fashion for her press tour, and this morning she was in maroon for a photo call in Madrid. Box Office: Dragon Swoops In During a Slow Weekend

After last week's close call with Kick-Ass, the animated family film How to Train Your Dragon came out on top this time with $15 million.

After last week's close call with Kick-Ass, the animated family film How to Train Your Dragon came out on top this time with $15 million. Unfortunately, the win is somewhat diminished by the fact that this weekend's box office had the lowest intake of the year thus far (perhaps everyone was playing outdoors?). Even the star power of Jennifer Lopez in newcomer film The Back-up Plan couldn't muster up big figures. It came in second with a modest $12.2 million.

Taking third was Date Night with $10.6 million, while The Losers debuted in its first week with a disappointing $9.6 million for fourth place. Following closely behind was Kick-Ass which dropped from No. 1 to No. 5 with $9.5 million.
