The Beautiful Life

The CW continues its onslaught of new shows with pretty young things in peril, tonight with the series premiere of The Beautiful Life, produced by Ashton Kutcher.

Who's the villain in this show? The big bad world of modeling. Mischa Barton plays Sonja, the runway veteran, but with a secret that's been keeping her out of the spotlight of late. Sara Paxton (who I've enjoyed in guilty pleasures like Sydney White) is Raina, the sweet and fresh 16-year-old who can't stop her journey to the top, even if it means toppling Sonja's career.

There's plenty of male eye candy too, like Midwesterner Chris, who's plucked from a family vacation in New York to do the Zoolander thing, and High School Musical's Corbin Bleu. Elle Macpherson also pops up as the agency head who runs a tight ship to round out the roster of beauty (check out the pretty pictures).

I'm hopeful that the CW can infuse some of its magic touch into The Beautiful Life, because the only example of a model drama I can think of is the short-lived '90s Models Inc. Can it be Gossip Girl on a catwalk? To see a clip from tonight's episode, just read more

Mischa Barton was still in her curlers as she walked to work on the set of The Beautiful Life in NYC on Friday. She smoked a cigarette despite the rain, but looked like she was in better spirits when the weather cleared up a bit. Earlier in the week Mischa opened up about what happened in her personal life this Summer and most of you appreciated hearing it straight from the source, as she dives back into work on her anticipated new show.

She was decked out for another trip to the gym, as she continues in her apparent quest to get in better shape. Mischa already looks great next to her The Beautiful Life costars, and she's about to have another face on set when Nina Garcia appears on an upcoming episode.

She's been spending lots of time bonding with her costars, though she also brought her dog along for some additional companionship. Mischa Barton carried Starbucks to the set of The Beautiful Life in NYC earlier today, but when the cameras started rolling she switched to something a little more bubbly. She plays a bad girl-type model in the new series, which shouldn't be too much of a stretch from her Marisa Cooper days. The actress has been bonding with the cast and getting kudos from producer Ashton Kutcher, who paid a visit to the set yesterday.

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore were in NYC yesterday paying a visit to the set of The Beautiful Life. As one of the show's producers, Ashton has been busy over the last few weeks chatting about its progress at the TCAs and throwing his support behind the star, Mischa Barton. He switched into leading man mode later in the day to celebrate his cover of Gotham magazine with a few friends. This trip to the East Coast is just the latest on Ashton's packed itinerary as he multitasks and promotes Spread, which hits theaters this Friday.
