Katie Holmes arrived in NYC yesterday afternoon via helicopter, and she made a quick stop at her apartment to change into a striped dress for a screening of The Extra Man with costars Kevin Kline and Paul Dano — what do you make of her curly hair style? Katie posed for photos and opened up about her hectic life with Suri, saying, "I bring my daughter with me and we're just busy and we make it work. It's fun." She didn't linger for long, though, and was spotted back at the heliport just a few hours later. It was the latest jet-setting day for Katie, who's been busy traveling around the continent working on her Kennedys miniseries in Toronto and stopping home in LA for shopping dates with Tom.

I'm not sure who I'm most charmed by in this preview for The Extra Man: Paul Dano as a proper young man in New York City, Katie Holmes as his colleague and crush, or Kevin Kline as his curmudgeonly mentor. To be sure, Kline is the star, teaching Dano how to be an "extra man" — that is, a man who wines and dines older society ladies to get by.

This is definitely a slice of a quirky indie, with Kline holding court in an over-the-top character-driven role. And since Holmes's onscreen appearances are rare these days, I'm always curious to see what projects have drawn her in. To watch the trailer for The Extra Man, just read more

Katie Holmes looked adorable in her matching white hat and scarf for last night's late premiere of The Extra Man at Sundance. After the screening, she and the rest of the cast headed to the afterparty at The Film Lounge at House of Hype. Despite the late start time for the bash, Katie had to be up and at 'em this morning since her second movie at the festival, The Romantics makes its debut this evening. She'll hold court with that cast for press, red carpet and another evening soiree tonight. One thing missing from her Sundance experience is Tom, who is back in LA working on Knight and Day. This isn't Katie's first time at the Park City festivities, but even as such a huge star she looks right at home at the low-key events.

The actress looks fresh-faced on the April cover of Glamour, which apparently isn't making one fellow actress too happy. Lindsay Lohan was supposedly under the impression that her photo as Madonna would be on the front and not just inside the magazine. For now it's Katie's time to shine despite any negative feelings from LL.

The story of a male escort is one that producer Springer Berman believes will resonate with many folks during these tough economic times. Jonathan Ames's novel The Extra Man will be adapted for the big screen with a few big names attached to star: Kevin Kline, Paul Dano, Katie Holmes and John C. Reilly. Here's more on the project:

Kline plays a failed playwright who works as an escort for rich widows on the Upper East Side. He develops a mentor-student relationship with a troubled aspiring playwright (Dano).

"This is a film for our times, these hilarious characters living on the edge of enormous wealth, scrapping for small pieces of the pie," [producer Springer] Bregman said. "I suspect a lot of people will be able to identify nowadays."

Hmm. . . I wonder what role Katie Holmes will play — hopefully not one of these rich widows because. . . yikes that's some age gap. Are you familiar with this book?
