The Five-Year Engagement

Jason Segel reteams with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller for the tale of two love birds who just can't get the timing right. Segel is one half of a committed couple (Emily Blunt plays his other half) who are head over heels for one another, but as they get engaged, life takes them in different directions and they are repeatedly forced to delay their wedding. Despite excellent chemistry from the two leads, this romantic comedy is a bit of a downer. The DVD comes equipped with a commentary track featuring Stoller and the cast, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and several making-of featurettes.

Safe

Jason Statham assumes control of another action flick in Safe. This time, Statham is fighting off bad guys and shooting up New York City in order to protect a young Chinese girl. The child is a genius with a photographic memory, and dangerous gangsters need to know what only she can tell them by heart. Extras include commentary by writer-director Boaz Yakin and the featurettes "Cracking Safe," "Criminal Battleground," and "The Art of the Gunfight."

What Keeps The Five-Year Engagement's Emily Blunt Healthy and Fit

If the movie trailer for The Five-Year Engagement is any indication, then we're in for a treat!

If the movie trailer for The Five-Year Engagement is any indication, then we're in for a treat! The romantic comedy is set to hit theaters tomorrow, and to celebrate, we're taking a look at how its star Emily Blunt stays so healthy and fit.

She lets herself indulge: Emily has been vocal about avoiding strict diets (with the exception of shaping up for a few movie roles), instead choosing to enjoy things in moderation — whether that be pasta, cheese, or any other food commonly off limits. But, when it's time to let loose, she gives herself a free pass. Emily told Women's Health that while on a trip to Paris, she did nothing but "eat cheese and bread."

She keeps active in her relationship: Whether it's touring the Hamptons on bikes or surfing on a Hawaiian getaway, Emily and husband John Krasinski are never content to just sit at home. But perhaps the best motivation keeping the pair fit are the almost-daily walks they take together with Finn, their red Labrador.

You may not know The Five-Year Engagement's costume designer Leesa Evans (pictured top right) by name, but you definitely know her fabulous stylings. Not only did she work on this new Emily Blunt and Jason Segel flick, which comes out today, but she's also worked on everything from Bridesmaids to I Love You, Man, and Get Him to the Greek to Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Quite impressive, right? After you've seen The Five-Year Engagement's onscreen fashions but before you catch the movie, get to know its talented wardrobe guru, who spills everything from her start to Emily's onscreen style to how to get the character's look!

CelebStyle: How did you get involved with The Five-Year Engagement?
Leesa Evans: I have worked with Nick Stoller, Judd Apatow, and Jason Segel on quite a few films now and I love being part of their creative team, so when The Five-Year Engagement came up, I was 100 percent on board.

CS: When did you get into costume designing and what was it about it that drew you in?
LE: I have always loved and been involved in fashion, but the first time I had opportunity to see a costume house, I was hooked on costume design. With the floor-to-ceiling racks of period costumes the size of a football field, I felt the possibilities were endless.

The Five-Year Engagement: Hold Off on the RSVP

I was looking forward to The Five-Year Engagement like a dear friend's wedding, but as promising as the movie is, it's not as funny or romantic as I was hoping.

I was looking forward to The Five-Year Engagement like a dear friend's wedding, but as promising as the movie is, it's not as funny or romantic as I was hoping. Jason Segel and Emily Blunt play Tom and Violet, a happy couple who gets engaged, but over the course of planning their wedding, they get sidetracked, and end up putting off the big day. As their wedding plans fall apart, so does their relationship. This is where The Five-Year Engagement differs most notably from other romantic comedies; instead of seeing a romance develop, we're watching one decline — and it's as depressing to watch as it sounds.

It's a shame that we don't get to see the prologue of Tom and Violet's relationship, because Segel and Blunt have fantastic chemistry, and they have each have such solid comedic timing. It's well suited for the humor of the script, which was penned by Segel and director Nicholas Stoller. The duo also wrote Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Muppets, two of my favorite comedies from the last few years, so my expectations were fairly high. Unfortunately, The Five-Year Engagement doesn't live up to those movies. The film's biggest laughs happen in the beginning of the movie, when the roadblocks to their wedding are far lighter than what the couple faces down the road. It's on that road that The Five-Year Engagement loses me — and its laughs. To find out what else I thought, just keep reading.

The Five-Year Engagement's Emily Blunt on Weddings: "It Should Be Very Personal to You"

Emily Blunt was in NYC last week to chat up her new movie The Five-Year Engagement, which hits theaters tomorrow.

Emily Blunt was in NYC last week to chat up her new movie The Five-Year Engagement, which hits theaters tomorrow. The movie was one of two Emily premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She also hit the red carpet to show off Your Sister's Sister. Five-Year pairs Emily with her pal Jason Segel, and the duo portrays Tom and Violet, a couple who has more than their fair share of difficulty getting down the aisle after a lengthy engagement. Emily spoke at a press event about relationship and wedding advice. She also touched on Five-Year's writer and star, Jason Segel, and how he "likes women" and wanted to write a comedy that flipped around gender stereotypes. Emily said:

  • On how to plan a wedding: "Don't have too many cooks in the kitchen. It has to be your wedding. It has to be whatever you want. It's essential. A lot of the time people get married for other people — for your parents, for your relatives, for your friends. Everyone wants the big do, and the dress, and the ring, and the whole thing. I really think if you want to get married in your backyard, then you should. It really should be very personal to you. That's my advice."
  • On the importance of communication: "Really, life is complicated and it's shape-shifting all the time and you have to be willing to roll with the punches. And the main thing is — something I found hard to learn as a British person — was communication. It's a word that we all are terrified of in England."
