While Denzel Washington's date to his LA premiere of The Great Debaters was his wife, he spent much of his red carpet time on the arm of one Oprah Winfrey. Also in the house were Samuel L. Jackson, his Kangol hat, and Jennifer Hudson, among others. After a long weekend of stumping for Barack Obama, Oprah traded in her pants suit for a leather skirt to support her friend and chat on the red carpet. Of course, she was asked about life on the campaign trail but also about the controversy surrounding her school in South Africa. She said, "I think that all crisis is there to teach you about your life," The biggest lesson learned: "You have to be far more careful in choosing people to stand in the gap for you. You have to stay on it. . . .The school is going to be better because that happened . . . We're going to come back and have best year ever!"

The characters on Gossip Girl are privileged enough to attend all kinds of upscale parties, and last night the show's stars got all fancied up for the 11th Annual HELP Group Teddy Bear Ball. The benefits of the event go to a nonprofit that helps kids with autism and other special needs. Blake Lively kept it simple in her embellished LBD while Leighton Meester looked like a present in her gold festive dress. Chace Crawford was his usual pretty self and we wonder if he and Leighton snuck in any scandalous kisses. We have a feeling the drama level wasn't quite on par with the masquerade ball, but it was for a much better cause.

Tyra whipped out her best formal shorts to help Kimora Lee celebrate the launch of her more-upscale-than-Baby-Phat line, KLS, in Hollywood this weekend. Kimora looked delightfully ridiculous, as always, and I'm fairly sure that skin color means she's radioactive. Meanwhile, is Ty-Ty possessed? I really don't think her eyes are smiling like they usually do.

Just when you think there couldn't possibly be any more awards shows, Hollywood is right there to prove you wrong. This weekend, The Soul Train Music Awards honored artists in R&B, hip-hop and gospel music. Jennifer Hudson, Babyface and John Legend were among the winners. Here are highlights:

"I want to thank Soul Train for appreciating my music and black music over the years," said Legend, who did not attend the show, via a television feed.

"I just can't believe I got the Sammy Davis Jr. award," said Hudson, who also performed during the show. "I'm standing on the same stage where I made the top 32 of 'American Idol.'"

"When you think of songwriting and where it comes from, you go to your space in your room and you write, and you try to write from the heart," Edmonds said.

Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, and Mary J. Blige were also honored but failed to grace us with their presence. I have to wonder where Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige keep all of their awards. Seriously, these women seem to be racking up the awards these days.
