Tilda Swinton's Most Avant-Garde Fashion Film Yet
Is there any movie star who has a more thrilling relationship with avant-garde fashion than Tilda Swinton? The actress is the star of a new short film directed by photographer Katerina Webb titled The Future Will Last a Very Long Time. Webb created the film during rehearsals for a live happening called The Impossible Wardrobe, which artist Olivier Saillard will stage during the Festival d'Automne à Paris, to be held at the Palais de Tokyo from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.
br>
In the film, which will be played on a loop during the happening, Swinton walks around the Musée Galliera's archives wearing a white lab coat and white gloves while holding some of the garments from its archives, including an item worn by Napoleon Bonaparte and a coat designed by Madeleine Vionnet. For added ghostly effect, the faces of the garments' wearers will be projected onto Swinton's image.
br>
This is not Swinton's first experience with high-concept fashion. Many of her most memorable film roles — like the White Witch in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe or Emma Recchi in I Am Love — have required forward-thinking costumes. A look at Swinton's own impossible wardrobe here in the gallery — and in another fashion-focused short she created with Dazed & Confused, below.

The Cannes Film Festival is officially underway! This evening's Moonrise Kingdom will be the first premiere of the week and the cast got together earlier this morning for their photocall. Wes Anderson was surrounded by his cast, including Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Ed Norton. The movie actually centers around a love story between two young actors, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, who were also on hand for the event.
