Paris and JT Hit the Club and Pole For Timbaland's Birthday

Justin Timberlake, Paris Hilton, and Ciara headed out to Drai's Hollywood in LA last night to celebrate Timbaland's birthday. Paris got the party started by showing off her moves on a stripper's pole, as she continues making the club rounds following her breakup from Doug Reinhardt. She was wearing a skimpy dress, though was still a lot more covered up than at her weekend bikini party. Justin Timberlake, meanwhile, raised his glass to his frequent collaborator Timbaland after their last single "Carry Out" hit airwaves in February.

Justin Timberlake Lends His Voice to Timbaland's "Carry Out" — Love It or Leave It?

Justin Timberlake has spent the last week focusing on fashion in NYC with his latest show for William Rast, but the always multitasking star also has a new music video.

Justin Timberlake has spent the last week focusing on fashion in NYC with his latest show for William Rast, but the always multitasking star also has a new music video. He makes a guest appearance on the song "Carry Out," which will be on Timbaland's upcoming album. We haven't heard much singing from Justin since he wrapped up his FutureSex/LoveSounds tour in 2007, as he's focusing on his many other ventures from producing and restaurants to spirits, and even golf. He's made other cameos including "Rehab" with Rihanna and "Dead and Gone" with TI, but tell us what you think of his latest collaboration — love it or leave it?

Rihanna Rocks Out With a Leg Out Before the Super Bowl

Rihanna was in Miami last night to take the stage during a pre-Super Bowl performance in Miami.

Rihanna was in Miami last night to take the stage during a pre-Super Bowl performance in Miami. She was dressed down for a rehearsal earlier in the day, but once showtime rolled around, she was decked out in a bra-bearing, leg exposing catsuit. Joining Rihanna were Justin Bieber and Timbaland, with Young Jeezy even making a cameo during her song "Hard." The Fan Jam concert series continues tonight with Nelly Furtado and Pitbull, as the city gets ready to host Sunday's big game between the Saints and the Colts.

Buzz-Worthy Video: Timbaland & Katy Perry "If We Ever Meet Again"

It's a match made in pop heaven: beat-maker Timbaland joins Katy Perry on the innocently fun track "If We Ever Meet Again."

It's a match made in pop heaven: beat-maker Timbaland joins Katy Perry on the innocently fun track "If We Ever Meet Again." Even if it lacks Timbaland's bite, which is how I felt upon listening to Shock Value II, the song is actually pretty infectious.

The ear candy is complemented by its new, cinematic video — in it, two art and jewel thieves (Duplicity/Entrapment anyone?) gaze longingly at each other, steal stuff, end up together. The usual. All the while, Katy and Tim groove around each other. It's a light, silly good time, so to see the video, just read more

We've tackled rock and pop, and now it's on to your vote for the best hip-hop album.

We've tackled rock and pop, and now it's on to your vote for the best hip-hop album. Music veteran Jay-Z may have been all over the radio with his everywhere song "Empire State of Mind," but we also saw several promising newbies make a strong showing in '09, including Wale, Kid Cudi, and Drake. Do you think they can beat out acts like Eminem or 50 Cent as this year's finest? Time to weigh in.

Don't forget to vote on all of my Best of 2009 polls!

What to Download: New Music Today

I've already gone over today's DVD releases; now here are a few music picks to help breathe life into your iPod. (If you want to weigh in on a new album, head over to the Music Review Group and write your two cents. I may even feature your thoughts on the site!)

A head-scratcher: Timbaland's collaborations seem even more forced in this follow-up to Shock Value, featuring pairings with Chad Kroeger, The Fray, even Miley Cyrus. Why does it feel like he's trying so hard? I was happy to see him return to old partner Justin Timberlake for "Carry Out," but the song is a ridiculous (albeit silly-fun) take on sex and fast food that makes me think of Timberlake's "I'm Lovin' It" McDonald's campaign. I prefer "Say Something" with Drake and "Ease Off the Liquor" — the only track where Tim is all by himself.

Never really takes off: I already shared my excitement about 30 Seconds to Mars's This Is War after previewing "Hurricane" with Kanye West, so imagine my disappointment when I heard the album in its entirety and the rapper's voice is missing (reportedly due to legal issues). Without West, War loses some of its oomph and many of the songs feel repetitive. Jared Leto's voice sounds great, but unfortunately, the music and lyrics don't pack the punch necessary for an album with This Is War as its title. Not that the boys don't have tracks worth checking out; "Alibi" showcases Leto's pipes, wailing with emo-ness.

Do You Think Miley Cyrus Is the Next Justin Timberlake?

Miley Cyrus might have started her career with Disney, but these days she's all over the place.

Miley Cyrus might have started her career with Disney, but these days she's all over the place. "Party in the USA" is pretty catchy, and more recently she won over Timbaland after collaborating with him on his newest record. In a recent interview, Timbaland compares Miley with Justin Timberlake saying,

"She comes from that same musical background, where she’s just got it. Her voice is just there. The best way to put it is she’s special."

Miley seems a bit sheltered when it comes to her musical knowledge and seems to rub some people the wrong way, but does have tons of fans. So — do you think Timbaland was right in predicting that she will be as hot as Justin Timberlake?

Do You Like It When Musicians Take Creative Risks?

At first this sounds like a crazy question because — duh!

At first this sounds like a crazy question because — duh! — creative types should take risks if they're worth their salt, but sometimes when it comes to our favorite musicians it's not so clear cut. Chris Cornell is a good example of someone who recently took a huge risk by departing from his rock 'n' roll roots to collaborate with hip-hop producer Timbaland on his newest album.

The album is getting panned critically, and Cornell's fans are not happy with this foray into new territory. His response is to wonder whether they wish he'd just churn out the same, solid stuff over and over again. He states:

If someone is up in arms about the idea of an artist that they really care about doing something that they just can't believe, it begs that question, "Well, what is it that you would want? Would you then want predictable, comfortable salad that gets reproduced year after year?"

Good question! So what do you think? Do you want your favorite musicians to take risks, or do you think they should stick to what they know and give fans what they want and expect?
