The Way, Way Back Trailer: Steve Carell Is a Summer Buzzkill

It doesn't matter that Steve Carell is a big, big jerk in the trailer for coming-of-age tale The Way, Way Back, because even he can't ruin the Summer for Duncan (Liam James) — though he certainly tries. It's a hot Summer, and Duncan is being dragged to a beach rental by his mom (Toni Collette) and her aforementioned jerky boyfriend, Trent (Carell). Even though Trent says discouraging, inappropriate things to awkward teen Duncan (like that he's "a three"), Duncan finds refuge at a local water park and in funny, smooth mentor Owen (Sam Rockwell). From there, he gets a little more confidence, especially around girls like Susanna (AnnaSophia Robb).

The trailer is equal parts funny and poignant, thanks to Oscar-winning screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (who also have small roles), which makes it no wonder that the movie feels kind of like Adventureland mixed with The Descendants. Given the buzz it got at Sundance and the fact that it stars so many people I love (Maya Rudolph! Rob Corddry!), I'm unabashedly excited for the July 5 release date. Watch it yourself after the jump.

Maya Rudolph, Steve Carell, and Sam Rockwell Go Way, Way Back at Sundance

Maya Rudolph, Steve Carell, Allison Janney, Toni Collette, and Sam Rockwell joined the rest of their cast for their Sundance Film Festival premiere of The Way, Way Back on Monday.

Maya Rudolph, Steve Carell, Allison Janney, Toni Collette, and Sam Rockwell joined the rest of their cast for their Sundance Film Festival premiere of The Way, Way Back on Monday. The movie, which is directed by the team who wrote The Descendants, immediately became one of the most buzzed-about debuts of the festival. The Way, Way Back has already been reportedly picked up by Fox Searchlight. The movie's title refers to the rear-facing back seat in older station wagons, and it takes place at a water park. On the red carpet, we spoke to Maya, Steve, and Sam about some of their best and worst Summer jobs ever. Maya revealed that she lied about her age to get a job at a cool clothing store when she was only 14. Steve, who was rocking a more salt-and-pepper look than we've seen before, joked that he actually dyes his hair gray. Check out lots more from our red-carpet interviews on today's PopSugar Rush!

Jessica Biel Brings Hitchcock West With Helen and Toni

Jessica Biel wore Gucci to the LA premiere of Hitchcock last night.

Jessica Biel wore Gucci to the LA premiere of Hitchcock last night. She was joined on the red carpet by two of her fellow leading ladies, a Dolce & Gabbana-clad Helen Mirren and Toni Collette, in Alex Perry. Jessica tweeted a photo of herself with Helen and Toni, captioning it, "Lemme tell you about my girl crush on these two. . . Helen and Toni!"

The trio were together for another screening Sunday in NYC with costar Scarlett Johansson, who missed out on the West Coast event. Scarlett was at the Late Show yesterday, having stayed behind in the Big Apple ahead of her 28th birthday tomorrow. Scarlett and Jessica weren't together last night, but they can be seen side by side in our exclusive clip from Hitchcock, which is out in theaters Friday.

Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel Debut Hitchcock in NYC

Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel attended the NYC premiere of their movie, Hitchcock, last night at the Ziegfeld Theatre.

Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel attended the NYC premiere of their movie, Hitchcock, last night at the Ziegfeld Theatre. They went for very different looks on the red carpet: Scarlett was edgy in a Rodarte mini, while Jessica went for something a bit more mature in an Oscar de la Renta combo, which she paired with Lorraine Schwartz earrings. Whose Hitchcock premiere look do you prefer? Helen Mirren, meanwhile, donned Dolce&Gabbana.

Jessica and Scarlett posed for photos alongside their costars Toni Collette, Helen Mirren, and Danny Huston after doing a long day of press at the junket together. Jessica joked on Twitter about how the ladies all looked at different photographers during the group shots. She wrote, "Our Hitchcock cast! Clearly no one knew where to look and when . . . " Missing from the fun was Anthony Hopkins, who plays the title role. Anthony Hopkins's Hitchcock impression looked quite good from Hitchcock's trailer, and moviegoers can see it for themselves when the picture arrives in theaters this Friday, Nov. 23.

Colin Farrell showed up paunchy and bald in the recent Horrible Bosses trailer, but in the preview for Fright Night he's looking a whole lot better . . . even though he may be dead. In the remake of the '80s horror flick, Farrell plays a vampire named Jerry (Jerry? Not the sexiest bloodsucker name, but OK) who moves in next door to Charley (Anton Yelchin), a high school student who's too busy thinking about his girlfriend to notice that some of his classmates are disappearing.

He's forced to take notice by his friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and pretty soon Jerry has his teeth pointed at Charley, his girlfriend, and Charley's mom (Toni Collette). Charley then suits up as a vampire slayer to go head-to-head against Jerry and protect everyone from the new vampire in town. Fright Night is just the latest movie to capitalize on the sizzling hotness of vampires, but this actually looks like clever and cool — if anything, the Jerry/Charley showdown will be a fun fight to the finish. The Primetime Emmys are coming up fast, but before the big night, I want you guys to tell me should win (be sure to test your knowledge of past winners with my new game).

The Primetime Emmys are coming up fast, but before the big night, I want you guys to tell me should win (be sure to test your knowledge of past winners with my new game). You've been doing a great job so far and I've incorporated your feedback into my Emmy breakdowns.

Now I want you take aim at the lead actress in a comedy category: which of these funny ladies deserves the statue? There's Glee star Lea Michele, a first-time nominee; Edie Falco, who's new to the comedy category but not Emmy nominations (she won the drama award three times for The Sopranos); and Amy Poehler, who's been up for supporting actress for Saturday Night Live, but this is her first time in the running for lead for Parks and Recreation. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been nominated the last four years in a row, but this'll be her last chance to win for The New Adventures of Old Christine. The other rivals for the Emmy are Toni Collette and Tina Fey, who have each won the Emmy once for their respective series, The United States of Tara and 30 Rock. Who do you want to win? Tell me in the comments, and then head over to my ballot for a chance to win an iPad!
