The Toronto International Film Festival is winding down, but during my visit to the event, I took in quite a few films and was able to share my thoughts about some of them in my video reviews. Penelope Cruz Goes Bold in Purple at TIFF
Penelope Cruz joined her Twice Born costars, including Emile Hirsch, at a press conference in Toronto today. The movie, which was filmed in Rome last Fall, was previously titled Venuto al Mondo. Emile is coming off his Summer drama, Savages, to promote the project, while Penelope has been in London working on her next film, The Counselor, with husband Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz. Penelope and Emile have a busy few days ahead of them with two more events scheduled before TIFF ends on Sunday. The festival has brought out many famous faces since kicking off last week, and we've been bringing you the latest as it happens — make sure to check out reviews of all the TIFF films
TIFF 2012 Reviews: My Festival Favorites and Letdowns
I've wrapped up my visit to the Toronto International Film Festival, where I saw lots of movies that will be coming out over the next few months — and I'm giving you the inside scoop. A few TIFF films got me thinking about early award season predictions, while some charmed me in other ways. Then, of course, there are the ones that disappointed. Find out what I thought of these festival films to get a feel for what was buzzing at TIFF this year.
Diane Kruger Gives Us Valentino Perfection (and Then Some) at TIFF
The latest starlet to nail her TIFF red-carpet appearance? None other than Diane Kruger. We're seriously starting to think she's incapable of a glamorous-styling misstep — and we're OK with that. For the Inescapable premiere, she chose an ultraembellished and fur-lined Valentino Couture number. Since the bodice was the main attraction, Diane did right by pairing the look with only the bare essentials: beautifully done makeup, a black clutch, and black pumps. And, trust us, the list of stylish appearances at the Toronto International Film Festival is ever growing. Gwyneth Paltrow donned a Tom Ford LBD with punched-up Giuseppe Zanotti pumps at the Thanks For Sharing premiere, Nina Dobrev debuted two sweet Monique Lhuillier looks during her Perks of Being a Wallflower promo tour, and Kate Hudson stunned in a svelte white Alexander McQueen number. Get a closer look at Diane's Valentino dress, plus, see 57 of the most fashionable TIFF moments thus far.
Diane Kruger and Josh Jackson Make a Sweet Sight at TIFF
Diane Kruger donned Valentino Couture to join her boyfriend, Joshua Jackson, at the Toronto International Film Festival debut of Inescapable last night. The picture, a thriller about a father searching for his daughter, in which Josh stars, didn't meet great reception from critics — check out one scathing review of Inescapable. Nonetheless, the premiere brought Josh back to his native Canada along with German-born Diane. In fact, Josh has been spending a great deal of time in his motherland shooting Fringe in Vancouver. Diane's been keeping company with Josh north of the border, but has also ventured to their homes in LA and Paris over the last month to focus on some of her own work.
Girl Gangs, Love Triangles, and Sex Scandals: TIFF Films We're Dying to See
The Toronto International Film Festival is underway, and we're intrigued by a plethora of big-ticket and indie films showing at the fest this week. Several of our favorite novels have adaptions we can't wait to check out on the big screen, including Anna Karenina, Great Expectations, and On the Road. There's a documentary about a single woman having a baby in her 40s and a political mockumentary about a conservative housewife looking for answers in the Iowa Caucuses. And many star some of our favorite actresses, including Audrey Tautou, Kristen Wiig, Jennifer Lawrence, Rachel McAdams, and Greta Gerwig. Throw in sex addiction, call girls, teen pregnancy, and hysteria, and you've got quite an intriguing group of films.
In addition to Like Someone in Love and Paradise: Love, which both also showed at Cannes, here are the TIFF flicks drawing us in with their provocative plots on love triangles, female friendships, admirable women, the sex industry, and more.
Rachel McAdams Brings Her Wonder to TIFF
Canadian fans gave Rachel McAdams a warm welcome at last night's To the Wonder TIFF premiere. She stepped out in a lovely green gown and was joined on the carpet by costar Olga Kurylenko, also wearing a similar emerald hue. Olga and Rachel were on hand representing the ensemble cast that also includes Ben Affleck and Javier Bardem. Rachel's boyfriend, Michael Sheen, also landed a part in the film; however, director Terrence Malick cut out his role in addition to Rachel Weisz's and Amanda Peet's. This isn't the last premiere of the week for Rachel; her dramatic thriller Passion is also screening throughout the week at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. We're on the scene, so be sure to follow us on Twitter for all the latest updates, news, and photos from the festival.
Kate Hudson Shows Lots of Leg at Her Latest TIFF Appearance
Kate Hudson was back in front of the cameras at Toronto International Film Festival yesterday to chat up The Reluctant Fundamentalist at a press conference. She chose a sexy black Emilio Pucci slitted dress and green heels for the occasion, which came after her hot red-carpet premiere. Kate wore a white Alexander McQueen gown and posed with fiancé Matthew Bellamy by her side. She also met up with costars Kiefer Sutherland and Riz Ahmed and the film's director, Mira Nair. Mira, Kiefer, and Riz were also by her side at yesterday's event. When Kate hasn't been making the film festival rounds, most recently in Canada and earlier this month in Venice, she's been spending time with family in London.
Kate Hudson Gets Gorgeous in White With Matthew Bellamy at TIFF
Kate Hudson chose a sexy white Alexander McQueen gown for her Toronto International Film Festival premiere this evening. She showed off The Reluctant Fundamentalist with fiancé Matthew Bellamy by her side after also posing with him on the carpet at the Venice Film Festival last week. Kate's costars Kiefer Sutherland and Riz Ahmed, as well as the film's director, Mira Nair, were on hand today as well. They're just the latest stars to descend on TIFF after Kristen Stewart, Emily Blunt, Ben Affleck, and others took their turns in the spotlight in the past few days. Make sure to check out all the stars at TIFF as the fun continues next week.
Jennifer Brings a Touch of Katniss to Her TIFF Premiere With Bradley
Jennifer Lawrence, in a dramatic Dior Couture gown, and Bradley Cooper teamed up in Toronto to show off Silver Linings Playbook at the city's film festival tonight. It was Bradley's second red carpet at the event after premiering The Place Beyond the Pines with Ryan Gosling yesterday. Jennifer made an appearance at that screening as well to show her support for her costar. She's sporting darker hair for her role as Katniss in the second installment of The Hunger Games, which she'll start filming next week. Sam Claflin was recently added to the cast, as was Jeffrey Wright.
