What to Rent: New DVDs This Week

While you're filling up your Netflix queue with Oscar-nominated films, consider this week's DVD releases!

While you're filling up your Netflix queue with Oscar-nominated films, consider this week's DVD releases! Along with these three movies, you can also rent Welcome to the Rileys starring Kristen Stewart.

Let Me In

This remake of the acclaimed Swedish horror film Let the Right One In is beautifully shot — if you don't mind the sight of blood. Breakout star Chloe Moretz plays a young girl with a dark secret: she's a vampire. Along with her guardian (Richard Jenkins), she moves in to a new apartment complex and befriends a local boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee). The story is terrifying and twisted, but much more compelling than your run-of-the-mill scary movie. DVD extras include unrated deleted scenes and behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Never Let Me Go

This film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's sci-fi novel sticks fairly close to its source material. Carey Mulligan stars as Kathy H., a young girl raised in an isolated community along with her best friends Ruth (Keira Knightley) and Tommy (Andrew Garfield). But as the trio grows up, they struggle with everyday issues like young love and jealousy and a much larger discovery — the real reason behind their existence. The cast is excellent, and the film provides plenty of food for thought. DVD extras include a making-of documentary.

Monday is the first day of November, and you know what that means: holiday movie season is just around the corner! The box office usually gets a jump start this time of year, thanks to studios banking on those long weekends and frosty temperatures. I've already got high hopes (and revenue predictions) for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I, but which November film most strikes your fancy?

Kristen Stewart Talks Welcome to the Rileys (Pole Dancing Included)

Kristen Stewart has been making the rounds to promote her latest project Welcome to the Rileys.

Kristen Stewart has been making the rounds to promote her latest project Welcome to the Rileys. In the film, Stewart plays a young stripper who befriends a grieving father (James Gandolfini). She recently spoke at a press day in New York about how she dove into the troubled character. Here's what she had to say:

  • On her character's back story: I don't know if this will sound bad, but a lot of these girls' stories are really typical. A few things add up to being able to do something like that for a job, and we sort of inserted those little bits and details.
  • On doing research for the role: He [director Jake Scott] was really on me as well. He was like, you've got to do some work before you're going to do this. He gave me a few really good books as well; like Raised by Wolves is the one that got me, where you have really candid stories. This guy endeared himself to a group of runaway kids in Hollywood, and they really just let it all out. Then just, like, pole dancing and stuff like that.
  • On her character's bruises: They were [makeup], but I got the bruises initially in rehearsal, because I learned how to pole dance. You don't really see it in the movie. Well you do . . . it's in silhouette in the background. It really hurts, and you don't realize that it's going to show. There were so many, it was like — do you keep all of them? Is it too much? Is it going to look hokey?

Kristen Stewart's Reluctant Breaking Dawn Diet

With Breaking Dawn underway, Kristen Stewart is starting on a somewhat timid diet.

With Breaking Dawn underway, Kristen Stewart is starting on a somewhat timid diet. I'll admit that it's a little odd to me — sort of like when I found out that the Gossip Girls use Spanx.

With a naturally lean frame and youth working in her favor, Kristen doesn't strike me as the dieting type. Welcome to the Rileys director Jake Scott tells People that while filming WTTR, Kristen sort of let things go on set: "She ate badly, smoked tons of cigarettes, stayed up late. She embraced the habitual nature of the character." Now that she's back to being Bella, the actress is trying to make things a little healthier, starting with a lighter diet: "Well, it’s kind of embarrassing but I’m playing a vampire soon. I eat disgustingly normally. And so, right now, I’m trying to not put so much butter in my food and stuff like that."

As for whether or not it's working, Kristen tells People, "Yeah, yeah. I feel better . . . I guess so."

How about you: have you ever (reluctantly) changed your diet or health habits for a big event?

Kristen Stewart's perfect pout was accentuated with a deep red lipstick for this evening's Welcome to the Rileys screening in NYC. She paired her one-shoulder dress with high Brian Atwood heels. She's in the city for a short press tour before starting work on Breaking Dawn in Louisiana, where the rest of the cast has already convened. Kristen looked stunning in white on stage at Saturday's Spike Scream Awards in LA, and she made a quick getaway afterward as she jetted off to her next location. Earlier today Kristen talked about playing a troubled young stripper, her Twilight cast, and future roles at her WTTR press conference. Kristen is currently promoting her indie film, but soon it will be back to blockbuster mode, and her hair has already made the transition from her natural dirty blond to Bella's brunette.

Kristen Stewart Talks About Visiting Strip Clubs and Her Reliable Twilight Buddies at Her Welcome to the Rileys Junket

Kristen Stewart was in LA over the weekend to collect her awards and look fabulous at the Spike TV Scream Awards, but by this morning she was in NYC to attend a press day for Welcome to the Rileys.

Kristen Stewart was in LA over the weekend to collect her awards and look fabulous at the Spike TV Scream Awards, but by this morning she was in NYC to attend a press day for Welcome to the Rileys. The actress was back in her flannel to join costars James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo chatting about their movie alongside director Jake Scott. Kristen spoke about getting into and out of her troubled young stripper role and also opened up about reuniting with the Twilight gang and the rumors she'll do a sequel to Wanted. Kristen said:

    • On dressing like a stripper for the film: "What surprised me most was the fact that I was so unaware of the fact I was walking down the street with my robe open and just not caring at all. I had no inhibitions, I wasn't scared."
    • On the Twilight cast: "I'm really lucky to have my cast on the series because as soon as we get back on set together, you always think it's going to be hard to get back there but it's not. We've all wanted to tell the story for so long and it's all finally going to come to fruition."
    • On doing the sequel to Wanted: "People were talking about that a while ago, but I don't know what I'm doing next. I have no idea."
    • On how she gets out of a role: "The few things that I've done between the Twilight movies have just coincidentally been very different, but I haven't been like, 'Oh I'm going to shock everyone right now and do something totally different.' It's always been totally informed by something speaks to you and you need to do it."
    • On getting absorbed in her role: "I tend to — and I'm not being deadly serious about this, but it is kind of — but I tend to really offend people who are in my life when I go. Especially on this one. It was the first time I'd ever been alone on a movie. I loved stomping around the city like it was mine . . . So I didn't really miss too much, I was having a great time."
