The Dark Knight Rises

Director Christopher Nolan brings his Batman trilogy to a stunning conclusion with The Dark Knight Rises. Christian Bale reprises his role as the masked vigilante who must break out of reclusion to again fight for the safety of Gotham. This time he's battling against Bane (Tom Hardy), a madman who has motivated a whole army to fight against the city's upper class. The film earned accolades not only for its A-list cast (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, and Anne Hathaway all join), but also for its tight storytelling and jaw-dropping visuals. The DVD contains a featurette called "The Journey of Bruce Wayne."

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton star as a couple unable to conceive, who magically find the son they've always wanted has appeared to have literally grown in their backyard. Though they're initially confused, they embrace Timothy, who is ambitious, talented, and contains all the qualities they could have hoped for. The story is cute but its also unavoidably schmaltzy and is likely to trigger tears form viewers both old and young. The DVD includes a music video from Glen Hansard and deleted scenes.

Jennifer Garner wore a sleek black-and-white outfit while arriving at a special NYC screening of her Disney film The Odd Life of Timothy Green yesterday. The lacy getup was the third in a group of cute looks Jennifer's been spotted wearing in the city this week. She stopped by Prada in a striped sweater and jeans yesterday morning, then emerged later in a navy blue dress for an appearance on the Late Show. During Jennifer's screening yesterday evening, she spoke about trying to find a balance between work and family and said that, "the balance thing just doesn't exist." She also added that she works "really hard while I work and usually it works out that for most of that time my husband's off."

Jennifer has been hot on the promotional trail this week but is still making time to spend with family and friends. She brought baby Samuel along with her to the Big Apple and was able to meet up with longtime friend and former Alias costar Victor Garber. She'll most likely have husband Ben Affleck on the brain today as well, since it's his 40th birthday.

Parents' Insecurities Explored in The Odd Life of Timothy Green

A visit to the set of The Odd Life of Timothy Green must be a lot like entering Peter Hedges's home.

A visit to the set of The Odd Life of Timothy Green must be a lot like entering Peter Hedges's home. The writer and director (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Dan in Real Life) is known for putting his heart into his films and sitting on his set is likely as comfortable as sitting in his living room. Case in point: after spending some time with the director, Jennifer Garner's first question for me was, did Hedges make me cry. When I said yes, and that he made me cry, she just smiled and nodded.

So it's no surprise that the film, which hits theaters on Aug. 15, is a bit of a tearjerker itself. Hedges took on the Timothy Green project after it was conceived by Ahmet Zappa. He spent two years pouring his life — and bits and pieces of his own insecurities as a father of two boys — into the film, which uses the whimsical tale of a boy who appears at an infertile couple's home out of nowhere to explore the idea of good parenting. When I visited the movie's suburban Atlanta set with two other reporters, we sat down with Hedges to talk about his decision to get involved in this project.

Read on for some of the best quotes and photos from the set visit after the jump.
