Jennifer Lopez's Shades of Blue Hairstyle Is All About Embracing 1 Thing

We've been lusting after Jennifer Lopez's Shades of Blue short and curly hairstyle since our first glimpse of her on set. Her character, Detective Harlee Santos, is a busy working mom whose short bob starkly contrasts her own — in the best way possible. And now, thanks to Jennifer's longtime hairstylist Juan Carlos Maciques, we know exactly how to achieve it.

To get the look, prep damp hair with a curling lotion or spray to keep curls loose and give them a lasting hold. Juan Carlos says it's "all about enhancing your natural texture." Next, pop the diffuser attachment onto your hair dryer and dry your mane, but don't touch it all. "Let the diffuser do the work. . . . The more you touch, the frizzier [the hair] becomes."

Now grab a curling wand (1/2-inch barrel preferred) and start wrapping small sections of hair around it, releasing after just a few seconds. Alternate the direction you curl — some toward your face and some away — to create an even more natural look. Once you've curled enough sections of hair and are satisfied with your Detective Santos-inspired hairdo, finish with a little hair spray.
