At 21, Jasmine Villegas has a long résumé of accomplishments: a single featuring Kendrick Lamar, tours with Fifth Harmony and Justin Bieber (and appearances in his videos for "Baby" and "Eenie Meenie"), upcoming performance dates with rapper Jake Miller, and, most recently, a partnership with cult makeup brand Wet N Wild Cosmetics.

We caught up with the performer behind the scenes at her Wet N Wild campaign shoot, where she admitted her skin and makeup struggles and opened up about her definition of beauty.

So, why Wet N Wild? Growing up with the brand, Jasmine admits to loving the tips it shared on its packaging, not knowing how to do makeup herself. "I don't have the glam team every day, so the fact that it was so easy to use and had the steps, especially for the eye makeup, because that's another thing I'm not good at," Jasmine said. "The colors are amazing, and I feel like it represents me as a person really well. And they're cruelty-free, and I love animals."

Her Skin Insecurities

Jasmine's three million fans and followers can attest that her skin looks gorgeous, both online and in person, but she's open about dealing with her skin issues. "I struggled a lot when I was younger because I have eczema on my face and my arms, so growing up, I didn't know exactly what it was. I tried everything possible for my face. When I realized what it was, I started drinking a lot more water." She also attributes the current smooth state of her skin to a good diet and removing her makeup before bed (she likes Wet N Wild's Under the Sheets ($3) to keep her skin clear).

As for touring, she doesn't worry much about what being under the lights of a concert venue does to her skin — you'll hate her for it, but she claims that she doesn't sweat. "I promise you, even if it's really hot, or I dance all day, I rarely sweat."

Everyone has a weird beauty ritual they indulge in, and Jasmine admits to hoarding lotion. "I would fill my bathtub up with lotion! I would mix a bunch of lotions and soak. I (also) used to put yogurt on my face to moisturize it."

Her Definition of Beauty

Her Definition of Beauty

Having so many fans can be a blessing and a curse — everyone has an opinion on social media. When it comes to her definition of beauty, she remains humble. "A lot of people off the bat think of the perfect body or face or hair, but honestly, it comes from within. Because the wrong inside really shows outside. So if you don't have a good personality to begin with, it makes somebody seem less appealing. If you're a good person and you take care of yourself and you're confident in what you're doing and what you wear, it really translates to people," Jasmine said.

It wasn't long ago, but if she could time-travel and give her 16-year-old self some advice, it would be equal parts humorous and sentimental.

"I would tell myself to throw away half the wardrobe I had, because it was not it. And I would definitely tell myself not to get discouraged as much, because being in the entertainment business at a really young age gets discouraging. I'd say that doors will close, but many more will open. And to watch more makeup tutorials, so I'd be on point with doing my makeup now."

Her Message to Her Fans

At the end of the day, the performer wants everyone to stay true to their dreams and to stay strong. When asked if she had anything to tell her fans, she didn't miss a beat: "Keep your heads up and keep going! Be confident within yourselves! It doesn't matter what you're going through, what you look like. Be happy and have tunnel vision with everything you're doing in your lives!"
