15 Perks of Getting Married in Your Early 20s (or Even Younger)

6 Month Rule For Wedding Guests

Dear Sugar,
What is a polite way to respond to my friend's e-mail about whether she can bring a date to my wedding? They have not been dating very long at all and I have never met him. Proper Priscilla

Dear Proper Priscilla
Tell your friend that you are having a numbers problem with your guest list and because of that, you've established a hard and fast rule that the couple needs to be dating for at least 6 months in order for the friend to be invited with a date. 6 months is a decent enough time for things to get serious. I am sure your friend won't be offended. If she is and decides not to come, than how good of a friend is she really? Weddings are far from just throwing a party with an exclusive guest list. They are very costly and involved. Tell her that she will feel comfortable because there will be other people there in her situation.
