78 Killed in India Terrorist Attacks Teams of heavily armed gunmen stormed luxury hotels, a popular tourist attraction, and a crowded train station in at least seven attacks in India's financial capital, killing at least 78 people and wounding at least 200, officials said Thursday.

The gunmen were specifically targeting Britons and Americans, media reports said, and may be holding hostages.

Thanks so much for the update, geebers! I am so happy they are safe!

I got a call last night from my boyfriend -they got stuck in the airport for hours because they landed during the attacks (in fact the first shooting was ten minutes after his flight landed). Naturally his family in India was late picking him and his parents up. They actually saw a car blow up on their ride over. It was a tense ride back but at that point a ton of cops were on the scene so it wasn't as scary for them as it must have been for his relatives. They got back to their apartment- he called me and his friends to let us all know they were OK - then this morning he called me to tell me that they were in lock-down. Police will not allow any stores to be open and everyone is to stay in their homes. My dad is pretty confident his family is OK -he heard only from his sister his niece is safe. I cannot imagine what everyone is going through- it is just so scary. I know it sucks for my BF as this is his first trip in many years but I am very happy and relieved they are all safe- and he said that they are all together so that everyone is happy and OK. Thanks for your thoughts! :)

I agree that there are lots of people who feel that way. There are also many people who feel that our troops should be sitting at home, and not fighting "other people's battles." What those people don't understand, and need to be reminded of (daily) is that these people are targeting Americans and our allies. If we don't fight them abroad, we'll be fighting them at home.

Dave, there are a lot of people that are critical of the Iraq war and critical of the fact that the troops were sent to Iraq, but don't necessarily think that we should be sitting at home playing card games. A lot pf people think the troops should be in other areas and pursuing threats in a more resourceful and beneficial way. That is not the same as bringing them home. Personally, I have a problem with the way we are doing things in Iraq, not the problem that we are in Iraq - should we have really gone there in the first place is a whole other can of worms.

I'm not necessarily making it political. I'm pointing out that there are lots of people around the world that want to kill us, and bringing our troops home is not in our country's best interest.

If you read some of the Indian online papers a lot of the comments are calling out the govt and saying "when the Americans we attacked they chased their attackers all over the world - we need Bush in India" I can't say I'm surprised, after 9/11 90% of the country wanted to hunt down somebody - but I do think they have a point, the Indian govt was careless to let something like this happen in that area of the country where security should always be top-notch seeing that they are so vulnerable to terrorism.

Why is this not a proper story and just a link to a huffington post page?

How about we don't make this political and just offer our prayers and best wishes? Geebers I hope that your family and your bf's family are safe and healthy.

Thats why Obama wants a surge in Afganistan (supposing thats where the terrorists are at). He wants to pull out idle troops in places where they are not needed and inject them into areas that terrorists are hiding. Its such a mess over there it makes me sick.

Does anyone believe that this violence will stop if we get out of Iraq and the middle east? Wouldn't it be better if we just hunted the people that are trying to kill us down and eliminate them?

geebers, I really hope that your dad's family and your bf's family are all ok. This is really frightening, I just can't believe the horrible things people do....

This news is stressing me out. Dad has family there -he has no idea about them. BF and his family flew out last night and landed this afternoon in Mumbai...waiting patiently to hear from him to make sure his family is OK. This is just incredibly sad...I cannot believe how coordinated these terrorists were. Very scary and sad.
