To be clear, I'm not very happy with any of our candidates taking time from their job needlessly. If you're going to run for President, do so on your own time. Don't waste my (the taxpayer's) money, and then expect us to let you take a vacation because you're tired of looking for another job...

Ah, yes, those who have reigned before have set a very high standard for vacation days. ;)

I was just responding to Undave's vociferous concern about work not being done that maybe Obama's practicing up to be President - certainly in training he'd have to pace himself until he could hope to achieve the vacationing skills of other revered chief executives. :)

I don't think taking 1 week of vacation is a bad thing. John McCain has a week long vacation scheduled later this month as well. These people are working very hard, 24/7. I think a well rested mind certainly works better. I don't think that one week is excessive. Stephley how could you compare Obama's 1 week vacation to the amount of time Bush has spent???G.W. Bush has taken 2 and a half years of vacation during the course of his Presidency. 1 week is really not excessive, IMO.

Apparently, President Obama will follow in the footsteps of his relaxed predecessors, W and Ronald Reagan. From August 2007:"On Thursday, Bush left for a weekend in Kennebunkport, Maine, and his family's summer compound, Walker's Point. On Monday, he heads to his Crawford retreat, where he has spent all or part of 418 days of his presidency, according to Mark Knoller, a CBS News White House correspondent and meticulous record-keeper. "...The presidential vacation-time record holder is the late Ronald Reagan, who tallied 436 days in his two terms. At 418 days, and with 17 months to go in his presidency, Bush is going to beat that easily."

UnDave35:I'm not sure what you mean by "the months he's spent not doing his job." he has been doing his job, unlike the other guy in the race who hasn't been to work in nearly 4 months & has missed more votes than any other senator, including one who was out recovering from brain surgery, not to mention taking weekends off. come on, the man has earned a week with his family, leave him be. at least he's taking his vacation when congress isn't in session.

The only thing I want to watch doesn't come until after 11 central. That would be softball. I don't care for swimming, or track and field. Gymnastics is nice because the girls are generally really good looking, and the outfits are nice(;)).

Sigh. I have nothing to dish! I haven't watched even a minute.

I agree Torg. We're going to have plenty of posts about POTUS 08 soon enough. Let's all take a break and dish on the Olympics. ;)

The Olympics have gotten at least 6 full sized posts in the last few days! This is one mini blurb between posts. If we saw six full sized posts about politicians on vacation in a few days I'd complain about that, too.

So he needs a vacation from the time he's spent NOT doing his job? What will he be like when/if he becomes President?

Torg on the Olympics: "In the nicest way possible, I still don't see why all this Olympics coverage belongs on CitizenSugar." News and Politics. I can't see how the Olympics isn't news worthy in your opinion but pics of obama on vacation are.

And the same reason we see their family portraits, their favorite songs, etc, etc.

Probably the same reason they have had threads about McCain's daughter..."human interest", I am guessing.
