Brad Pitt to Meet With Nancy Pelosi About New Orleans Housing

Brad Pitt Has a Date With Nancy Pelosi

Barack Obama isn't the only person with a housing plan. Brad Pitt is set to meet House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to talk about his Make It Right Project. Brad will have Nancy's ear tomorrow afternoon, to share details of the project he launched in 2007 with the intention of building affordable and environmentally safe homes for residents of New Orleans' Ninth Ward who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina.

Brad's bringing the flashing camera's along; the headline making duo (Brad and Nancy, that is) will meet after and pose for some pictures in the Capitol Building. Are you happy politicians want to hear more about Brad's idea for New Orleans?

The ELCA number Dave gave was SO high I was amazed that they weren't getting more attention - which is why I kept asking Dave if he was sure. When I couldn't find anything to support the numbers, I emailed ELCA - here's the response: Greetings, Thank you for checking in with us about the statistics. The 500,000 homes statistic is not true, I think it got garbled from our calculation that we have logged 500,000 volunteer HOURS. That work was done by over 50,000 volunteer experiences. Volunteer experiences means that some people volunteered more than once, so the number of people involved is fewer than 50,000, but still very many volunteers! Finally, we calculate that we did work on about 10,000 homes affected by Katrina. We don't do slab up rebuilds of houses, we do repair and mucking out of flooded but still standing homes. That's kind of our niche, while Habitat does complete build ups from nothing. thanks! kevin The Rev. Kev__ M______, BCC Director ELCA Domestic Disaster Response Lutheran Disaster Response Evangelical Lutheran Church in America 8765 W Higgins Rd., Chicago, IL 60631-4101 --------------------- So: if you need with clean up, repairs and immediate recovery after a hurricane, the ELCA definitely is a go-to group. But, if you're looking into long-term neighborhood recovery and rebuilding, look to Habitat or call Brad Pitt and Make It Right because they're the ones doing THAT right.

Never mind, I checked further. There's a reason why I couldn't find your numbers. :o

Dave, are you SURE that number is right, even for the whole affected area? I can't find anything with numbers like that.

I'm glad to hear the ELCA Disaster Relief is helping the entire region and not just New Orleans. Places in Mississippi were just as devistated as New Orleans but you don't hear anyone talking about them.

It's in Mississippi as well as NOLA, but the point is no other agency, government or private, has built more homes than this group. SHould she be talking to the ones that are doing it right?

I live in New Orleans, and I have my own non-profit so I am very familiar with the Make it Right. I love them but it is NOT a handout because the homes will be SOLD for about $150,000-$250,000 each, which some low-income people cannot afford so they are trying to cut their overhead costs to offer a more affordable house.

I hope Pelosi lends her ear to all who are trying to do good in whatever way they know. Be it Brad Pitt or the ELCA Disaster Relief. I don't care how they do it, or whether they are in it for the fame or for the good of it. If the result is homes for those affected, I wish them all the very best.

That's an amazing number Dave - are you sure it's that high? Just in New Orleans or all along the Gulf Coast?

Well, she's no Newt Gingrich...

I HOPE Pelosi will give her ear to the ELCA Disaster Relief effort then, which has built 500,000+ houses in the area following Katrina.

I have a feeling Ms Bunny doesn't actually know what Brad Pitt's doing in New Orleans or how long he's been doing it.

UMMM Nancy Pelosi is the most Polarizing Partisin in Washington therE is! She refuses to let Republicans be involved in any bill writing, which is why they vote agaimst her stimulus! the facts are there for you to look up, but you'd rather call ME MISGUIDED, INSTEAD OF FACE THE TRUTH!!! You Just will continue to call me uneducated and misinformed, and I refuse to allow you to! I AM NOT MISINFORMED!!! Iam sick of you leftists dismissing everyone who has information contrary to what you CHOOSE to believe, and much of what you choose to believe are utter LIES!!!!!

Ms. Bunny, I'm confused. Your picture is cute and cuddly, but you say the ugliest things. You seem really misguided and I hope you are OK.I wish only the best for this country and I hope that more people become involved in the solution. I don't think people like Brad Pitt are misguided... I think we all need to pull together and try to make this country better.Rather than calling each other ugly names and being bipartisan, everyone needs to put on their "big girl panties" and realize the country is in peril and everyone needs to help. And, that's all I have to say on this topic!

I hate Nancy Pelosi! She is cruella Deville and is hurting the American People! Brad Pitt is a stupid left wing idiot! If he really cared about helping anyone, he'd talk to govenor Jindel, who would rather give people a Hand UP, NOT a hand OUT!!! I care about people, but these leftists like Pelosi who claim to really just hurt people! Brad is extremly misguided, and I really don't think he's open to the truth!!
