hahah....after the each of the CEOs made the headlines for going to congress in their own private jet, they carpooled in a hybrid this time..... classic.

I don't think $1 salary is good enough of a sacrifice. they have tons of money saved up (not that that's a bad thing) so it's not like they're going to go poor. they need real solutions

What about that Chris Matthews for the Senate? I don't think I would vote for him. Guess it depends on the GOP candidate. I guess he does actually have a pretty good knowledge of politics and world issues.

I pretty much agree with what everyone has said. This can't be just for show and there has to be a real effort to changing there companies into something that will thrive in this market and a demand for the Executives to make real financial sacrifices.

It's going to take a lot more than $1 paychecks to convince me. I agree, smacks of PR.

The CEO's need to do a better job of coming up with a solution than recycling the same ploy Lee Iacocca did in the 80's. Bring me real solutions, and I'll bring the green. Condi did a great job as Secretary of State. Hillary will do a good job as well.

On the Condi comment - playing the piano is about the only thing she can do well. Hillary will be a superb Secretary of State - light years better than Condi.

Lee Iaccoa (sp??) did it, its the very least these bandits could do. They have more than six months salaries banked. But, I do agree, they need to make better products for the long term bailout of this industry. They knew about this problem thirty years ago, what the @#%$ were they doing all this time?

harmonyfrance - I agree. It's like people trying to borrow their way out of debt but won't address and/or change the behavior that got them there in the first place.

zeze I agree with you 114%... maybe even 115%. The one dollar paycheck smacks of PR to me, and not much else.

$1 for a year's work does not comply with the minimum wage. $6.55 an hour it is!

I don't by the 1 dollar paycheck for a moment. Remember they still have bonuses, pensions, and plethora of ways to make money off the bailout. What Congress needs to do is agree to the bailout, only and only if there is a complete over hall of the current board and management. GM, Ford, and Chrysller have not learn from their mistakes. Their car engines, design, and models are outdated and they refused to follow in the footstep of Japan, S. Korea, and Germany in being innovative and creating more hybrid cars, cars that run on more miles per gas, despite the fact most people in America considers American cars to be inferior to Japanese cars they continue to produce gas gusslers such as Hummers and other suburbans. In the 80s Chrysller was in the same exact position that they are in now. They had a bailout from the government then and they didn't not use that money to create better cars and now 20 years later they are back in the same position. Our government and the American people shouldn't reward stupidity.

Ok, as much as I hate sticking up for the big three CEOs - I must. Members of congress asked if they would do this, since they messed up the auto industry so much they must make sacrifices. Well members of congress - what about you messing up the entire freakin' economy, I don't see you taking a dollar salary? The big 3 are not even in as much trouble as the US is in terms of debt - so by their own reasoning Congress members should not even get the dollar! This is like Amy Winehouse criticizing Courtney Love for being a drugged up mess!

Exactly harmony. It's all good to take a 1 dollar pay check but to do that and still make a crappy car that people don't want still isn't going to help much.

Sigh. The dollar paycheck is a nice gesture, but they need to produce REAL solutions for their companies so that this bailout isn't just a band-aid on an inevitable failure.
