smart people talk and negotiate, bullies use fear and force and cowards run and hide. right now a lot of the world sees us as the bully. if you take the time to negotiate you may find a room full of intelligent people who may disagree can find common solution to the problem at hand. Just because you disagree with someone doesn't make them wrong. As our perception is our reality their perception is there reality. Just my opinion.

"the only thing that (talking) will give them is the time to organize another large strike on American soil." UnDave I'm sorry but that is silly. You would have us believe that if we engaged in dialogue with our enemies that some how for some reason our intelligence and military personnel would suddenly stop doing their jobs. No one is suggesting that the responsibilities of our military and intelligence personnel be dismissed. What many are calling for is that our state department be an engaging participant in international affairs. The state department under Reagan, H.W.Bush, and Clinton were aggressive and engaging. The state department under W. Bush has been nothing but passive and subservient to a militaristic culture in the Administration.

Just for the record, I am totally against Obama giving Texas to Iran.I mean, unless it's really really necessary to appease them.

but again, no one's suggesting conversations with terrorists.

IMO Bush is afraid if this country begins having conversations with terrorists, the only thing that will give them is the time to organize another large strike on American soil.

Bush's grandfather probably still has holdings there.

So, is Bush afraid that Obama will cede the Sudatenland to Germany?

We've talked to Libya and North Korea and Gates says we should talk to Iran. And our very good friends the Saudis were connected to the 2nd World Trade Center attack. None of those attacks were perpetrated by governments, but by terrorist organizations.

I agree that talking to nations that we have disagreements with is not appeasement. Standing aside and not doing anything while those governments organize and carry out viscious terrorist attacks, or provide money and safe haven for said terrorists is appeasement. What Chamberlain did wrong in the late 30's is he did nothing to help Europe when Hitler began his invasion. Chamberlain also rationalized Hitler's invasion of Poland, recalling Hitler's speaches about "crimes against fellow German citizens." We "talked" to terrorist organizations for 8 years under Clinton, and where did it get us? 1st Trade Center bombing, the USS Cole bombing, the embassy attack, and the 2nd World Trade Center attack. Since then, we haven't talked, we've acted, and the terrorists are not focusing theuir attacks on innocent US civilians anymore.

"We need to stop using these inflated words to mislead the genuine understanding. Talking to nations which we have disagreements with is not appeasing the enemy. Sen. Obama has no intention of making him self a door mat for Iran or any other country but this is what the Republicans would have us believe."VERY well said! :)

That was extremely entertaining for me. I think more than to the point of history the other gentlemen hit the nail on the head. A this wasn't trivia...but I think if I was Matthews' producer, I would have begged him to stop about 2 1/2 minutes in. He just ground the guy into the ground. And I didn't find any of the cartoons very interesting.

You'd think if you're gonna go on Hardball with Chris Matthews you'd be prepared to be grilled. The guy is a walking encyclopedia of political trivia, and after the slamming he gave to an Obama surrogate a month or two ago, asking the poor guy to name Obama's legislative accomplishments, the rule should be KNOW YOUR STUFF.
