It says this about him and I think its good:"predisposed to avoiding controversy thanks partly to his embrace of journalistic objectivity in his public life, but also because he is dispassionate and non-ideological by nature."NON-ideological is good. PRACTICAL is good.I'm going to keep an open mind on this one, I see some strong reasons to like this guy and I think he might be a good choice. Now the question is - will the big bad machine that is federal government allow him to say what is true and not what is BS?The FDA are no friends of mine, and some of the "truth" on oils, sugars and fat that has been spewed out unto the American population under the guise of "truth and scientific" is utter, unbelievable, CRAP.The story of soy products in the USA is enough to make someone shudder, not to mention aspartame.

If he did say those things, I would be disappointed because that is not accurate. However, I would need to see a quote or something to actually believe that he said it. Also, I don't think that I would need to agree with him in every area to make a good SG. I think that we need a very serious "AMERICA, FOOD IS KILLING OUR COUNTRY" message coming from that office. I think the drug policy should be left to other departments, but I don't really know what the SG actually presides over.

"apparently in 2002 he said smoking pot would lead to psychosis, depression and schizophrenia, then he won't support any attempts to ease up on it legally. They're a lobby, they're going to be hyper about anything that reflects negatively on their issue." Good information. Very upsetting.

Stephen Colbert likened Blago's hair to those Lego people. He's totally right!

At first I didn't see the gum story (my eyes glossed over it for some reason) and I kept getting the comments in my e-mails. I was so confused! I think that means it's time for me to go home.

I guess their thinking is that if he's against pot, and apparently in 2002 he said smoking pot would lead to psychosis, depression and schizophrenia, then he won't support any attempts to ease up on it legally. They're a lobby, they're going to be hyper about anything that reflects negatively on their issue.

But the Surgeon General doesn't make decisions about law and drug classification. Wouldn't that be the "drug czar's" job? I think you could have a SG thinking it was not a healthy thing to partake of, while still allowing it to be legal or decriminalized.

They did fine you for spitting in Singapore - don't know if they still do. The pro-pot lobby doesn't think Gupta's a good choice and I read that Paul Krugman thinks he's a dick. I'm just saying...

I think they were teenagers. I have no idea why anyone would want to do that. It made me want to move to Singapore temporarily. Don't they fine you for spitting there?

Pop, yuck  . I have never understood the need or desire to spit on public sidewalks. It's just nasty. Hypno's right, wrap the gum in paper until you find a trash can.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta as surgeon general? I can't see that for some reason. The gum thing is a myth... but it is still preached by moms every where. Along with the dont' swallow watermelon seed cause you'll grow a watermelon in your belly. (That is a myth... I tried it as a kid.) :D
