On an unrelated note, my grandmother was subjected to providing proof of the "red apple" after her wedding night... how embarrassing!

I think Miss McCain looks absolutely stunning, but I agree the words that come out of her mouth are a little.... painful to listen to. She just kinda goes and goes without really saying anything.

I wouldn't mind looking like her, but I would mind going on tv and sounding as vapid as she does.

And wth is up with that huff po article. Of course at the end they have to throw in, well what Obama said is different that what McCain said about the fundamentals of the economy being strong. I mean saying that we have to focus on the strong fundamentals of our economy is no where near saying that the fundamentals of the economy are strong :oy: no wonder people are brain washed.... for the millionth time please stop going to huff po for news....

janneth, it takes inner strength not to be intimidated by our society in this regard! (I see it all as 'smoke and mirrors.')

I think people who don't like Meghan McCain because she is a young republican. I think she is gorgeous. I wouldn't mind looking like her one bit. And last time I checked Meghan is not reading off a teleprompters in every appearance a la a certain POTUS I know and so to expect every thing that comes out of her mouth to be flawless is unfair.

And cc, you are so right about the photoshopping of women's bodies on magazine covers and elsewhere. And the plastic surgery. These are not real or natural bodies that we are being asked to emulate.

I never heard of this Laura Nobody either, but her fat comments sure put her name out there in the media.

Unfortunately, society has dictated the 'perfect woman' - we all see it every day on every mag cover. In addition, women who are naturally slim still have pictures that are photoshopped. I remember reading an article about Faith Hill.... like she needs to be slimmer?

Watching her on Maddow I did have the 'why is someone paying her and not me to write for the Daily Beast' blues - but, of the people who get paid to write or do stuff I'd like to do because of their name and not because of their knowledge or talent, I'm okay with her. Since someone who isn't me is going to get paid...

Anyone can be genuine. I'm also pretty genuine, and I'm also not particularly well-versed in politics or well spoken. But unlike me, her last name means she gets a column and to be on Maddow and the View, etc. even though she's never really saying anything very interesting.

McCain's no 14-year old wunderkind for sure True, but I think she comes across as genuine.

Michelann, I thought that too. It seems strange that someone trying to be so involved in politics and make a career for herself that way wouldn't have heard of Laura Ingraham.

Meghan McCain bugs me. She doesn't speak precisely. I keep trying to like her, but everything she writes and says just seems so juvenile.
Modus-Vivendi Modus-Vivendi 6 years
It's cool that she's speaking out, but to say it's the "last acceptable prejudice" seems like an odd thing to say.

I'm having a hard time believing that Megahn McCain had never heard of Laura Ingraham before she made those comments about her. Man, Laura Ingraham rubs me the wrong way. I would like to see that comment in context, but obviously there's no context that makes that acceptable behavior.

I hate when people criticize women's bodies. That whole twig look isn't working for anyone anyway.

I agree Em UD... that sounds exactly like something my dad would say :) In fact I think he has said it before haha!

If I told her she had a beautiful body, do you think she would hold it against me?? ;)

I just think it's lame that there even has to be such a negative feeling towards people who are plus-sized. So not everyone's a size 0. Big effing deal.

I've never heard Laura Ingraham's radio show before but that was pretty bad. And pretty childish.

She looks quite good, actually. Healthy.

So no one's free of the "let's scrutinize every woman's body" thing, eh? Pathetic.

Also, I saw the pastor's wife on the news last night, she has so much faith and strength. She is trying to comfort the congregation and people in the world despite this.
