I"m not saying that you're saying that, Jill, as comprehensive sex ed and contraception are two separate issues. However, the comprehensive sex ed thing, while it annoys me, doesn't bother me that much because Palin ultimately believes that education should be left to the states anyway, so it wouldn't really have much effect on things.

Also, I don't know where people got this idea that Sarah Palin is against contraception. She is definitely for it.

Jill, you're back! (I noticed you were busy with other things for a few days.) Anyway, I got into this on another thread, but I think it's important to remember that, while the President chooses SC justices, Congress has to approve them. The likelihood of Roe v. Wade actually being overturned is incredibly miniscule, no matter how many justices retire in the next four years. As for earmarks, Palin did ask for them, but when you compare the number of earmarks she asked for to the number asked for by most others, it is significantly lower, even when you divide the number by the number of people in her state and town.

I am more concerned about her earmark record, because the McCain campaign has been pushing the idea that she was a champion against earmarks. I am sure she has a lot of good attributes, but please don't say things that are not true! She got $27 Million for her town of 7,000 people. Asked for $500 Million her first year as Gov. She asked Stevens for nearly $200 Million this year. Perhaps these were for necessary projects...but it is lying to say she championed against them when she is asking for hundreds of millions of dollars to spend on less than 1 million people.

I don't care how much her dress cost...it is a big night, and it isn't as if tax payer money covered it! "I don't think there are any conservatives on here who are pro-life and against comprehensive sex ed. There are actually very few conservatives left anywhere who feel that way, it's just that the ones who do happen to particularly vocal." What concerns me is that potential VP Palin thinks this way. I guess it doesn' t matter how many people feel that way, it matters the level of power those people hold. "Bush is WAY more of pro-life advocate than McCain and the law has not changed in these last 8 years" The issue will be forced this next Presidential term, because 3 Supreme Court Justices are set to retire. . The decision will be made for us by the next President.

Bush is WAY more of pro-life advocate than McCain and the law has not changed in these last 8 years. Using this as a major issue bugs me. This is something that has been resolved for years and letting these issues keep coming up is ridiculous! The details (age of consent, parental issues, late term) should be left up to the states. period. stop making it a federal issue when it isn't. Besides- it is a Supreme Court decision not a presidential one!

Strictly interpreting the constitution is a horrible idea. Let us look back to our great leaders of Woodrow Wilson and FDR who knew that our constitution was a living document and believed in governmental darwinism, which dictated that a government must grow and evolve in order to continue to dominate its people. A fascist (not perjorative, of course) society requires a living constitution, otherwise the government will not have the ability to help us with our decisions.

i like the cut of her dress but that green was garish! i really didn't like that. I think i would have liked it if it were navy or red... or a plum, that would really make her blonde hair look beautiful!

I'm sorry, Cindy's dress was beautiful and worth every penny. I thought she looked beautiful. On an even more shallow note, I've been tuning into the RNC every night, not really for the speeches but to see if I can catch a glimpse of what Cindy McCain is wearing. I think no matter who wins in November, we will have a very well dressed first lady.

Pricing Cindy McCain's outfit just smacks of desperation and devalues any serious discussions. Besides, how an you set a price on this stuff? Jewelry can fluctuate wildly over time, and these may be old family pieces. Also, designers frequently give high-profile people their products, the publicity makes it well worth it. Also, threating women with "the big bad Republicans will turn you into mere breeders" is extremely cynical and shows me that Obama believes women are all simple-minded single-issue voters. It's not realistic. I'm not a fan, but I thought better of him than that. :irk:

torgleson.. people are confused about where John stands on pro-life because he has wiggled around a bit over the years. For awhile in 2000 he believed strongly that Roe vs Wade should NOT be over turned (Cindy got confused earlier today even on the Today show about where her husband stands), now he decided it should be over turned and left to the states to decide.. that means still legal somewhere in the US.. not illegal. If he wanted it to be illegal he could have voted for Sanctity of Life Act, but he voted against it. He used to believe in stem cell research..not sure if he still does since he is now actively changing his tune to attract the conservative vote. John McCain was a member of the infamous "Gang of 14" senators from both parties whose purpose was to oppose pro-life, strict constructionist judges...but now he is leaning for conservative judges. In the past he voted for federal funding for Planned Parenthood but now is against it. I think he still believes in abortion in the case of rape or incest or if the mother's life is at risk..but Palin doesn't. McCain used to be a maverick.. he used to buck the party lines.. now he tows them.. so who knows where he stands. Maybe he is getting so old he forgot what he used to believe in. He definitely has become a hot head (which I am not sure is good for the Presidency) and is getting cranky in his old age.

That is plain stupid, and fiscally irresponsible, to try to sell a corporate jet on eBay. And she brags about it.
