Surely the American public isn't as stupid as the Republicans thinks it is... are they? This election isn't about Sarah Palin. She's simply the bone thrown to the dog that is the right-wing evangelical base. Karl Rove, Steve Schmidt and Tucker Eskew has told John McCain that these are the people who don't think about what is really good for America... they only want to hear what they've been told is God's word on the definition of "family values". Do you think Tucker Eskew has family values? In case you don't know, he's the guy behind the "swiftboat attack" in 2000 that claimed John McCain had a black baby. Desperate to not lose, John McCain has traded any honor he might have left and HIRED Eskew to create those ads the public is now seeing... the same hating, subtley racist, out and out lie-based claims about sex education for kindergartners, etc. Yeah, that's HONOR for ya. And that's a "civil and respectful" campaign. And now John McCain would like you to believe that his having to do that -- to hire the swiftboaters, to lie in ads, to repeat lies over and over, to be negative and not civil or respectful... well, that's Obama's fault! Because he wouldn't have town hall meetings, instead going off to Germany to have 200,000 Europeans waving American flags and cheering! Take that, Obama... you made me approve that lie of an ad! That's McCain's "values" for you. Seriously America. Are you just going to lie back and let them roll you over and stick it to you again? Are you better off today than 4 or 8 years ago? Do you really want Roseanne Barr as VP? Are you really that afraid of ethnicity or intelligence or otherness? The Republican party doesn't even want to win the abortion or guns or gays issues... they wouldn't have their "family values" distraction to keep you from asking about real issues if they did. It's pathetic. I'm from the heartland. I'm a grandmother of five; mother of two. Even I get it. As an independent who has voted green party, democratic party and even republican party in my lifetime, I have to tell you... I'm voting for REAL solutions to REAL problems that REAL Americans are facing daily. Because abortion won't put food on the table. It won't feed the kids, or clothe them or pay for their education. It won't bring back that out-sourced job or answer the phone when the mortgage company is calling about the payment you can't make. Abortion won't fill up the gas tank or hire a sitter or pay the doctors and hospitals when your insurance company refuses to pay for more chemotherapy. And while the religious right comes out of the woodwork to vote in a THIRD TERM FOR BUSH... will America sit idly by, outnumbered and defeated by the same tired distractions? I hope not. That's why I sit and register voters once a week. It's why I blog. It's why I make phone bank calls. For me. For my family. For Americans who desperately need a real change in Washington.

Just noticed the complaint about not keeping posts balanced, which seems funny on this post since the first link is about Palin misrepresenting her views on the bridge and the second is about how much people like the GOP candidates. Oh, wait! I forgot. Some republicans think being really popular is a bad thing.

I agree with that, we do have a more divers selection of liars this election cycle.

UnDave, I wasn't pointing ONLY at Palin. Every politician to ever run for anything in this country has told the public half truths, kinda truths and just flat out lies. The only difference in this situation is that Obama isn't white, a woman ran against him in the same party, and now a woman has been selected to join the republican ticket. In other words, the only thing different from every other election is that now we have a more diverse selection of liars to choose from.

Ask the CLintons where the truth-telling politicians went. "That depends on what your definition of 'is' is."

"And I am sorry, but if she asks for $500 MILLION DOLLARS her first year as Governor, you can't say she is a champion against earmarks." And Obama requested for $220 million, including $1 million to go directly to the hospital where his wife works. Palin redirected that money to worthwhile community porjects, that also provided jobs for her constituents. Everything is more expensive in Alaska, right? This "bridge to nowhere" is just another political attack that doesn't have any real basis in truth, if you look at both sides unbiasly

Palin scares me, big time. Its sad that we all have to be on the hunt to find the truth behind political ads. What happened to politicians actually telling everyone the ACTUAL truth? Has a time like that even existed in the history of american politics?... :( The more Palin talks (or doesn't talk...) the more I lean toward Obama.

I hope Palin has some answers for her Alaskan constituents billing the state for working at home is ridiculous, especially since she chooses to stay in Wasilla and drive the miles to Anchorage (which isn't even the capital Juneau is)and work in a government building.

I think the biggest point here is that Americans know very little about this person who has been chosen as VP to a Presidential candidate, and the information that the campaign is putting out is NOT FACTUAL. It should understandably make you question the quality of the information the McCain camp is putting out there. She is not a fighter against earmarks. She is not a reformer. She did not sell her plane on Ebay (McCain himself said the other day that she sold it for "a profit", which is a double lie!). The biggest project she worked on as Mayor was to build a hockey complex. She passed a bond measure, directed tens of millions of dollars towards it, BROKE GROUND on the facility...and then found out that they didn't even have the lease to the land!! This was in Friday's Wall Street Journal, fyi. The government had to spend hundreds of thousands of tax dollars in legal fees to straighten out the mess, and the complex is still in the red. She said it would bring money to the town, and instead it wasted money. And I am sorry, but if she asks for $500 MILLION DOLLARS her first year as Governor, you can't say she is a champion against earmarks. The American people deserve better than these LIES that the McCain campaign is putting out. These aren't stretches of truth, they are out right bald faced lies.

The “Bridge to Nowhere,” would connect the town of Ketchikan (population 8,900) with its airport on the Island of Gravina (population 50) at a cost to federal taxpayers of $320 million . The regular mode of transport was a ferry service that runs to the island. But some in the town complained about its wait (15 to 30 minutes) and fee ($6 per car). The Gravina Island bridge project is an embarrassment to the people of Alaska and the U.S. Congress. Anyone who voted for this bill fully knowing the grand total is fiscally irresponsible. As I pointed out, BO and Biden both thought the idea was a ok. Wow, if this was such a bad idea why would she ever support it at all, I'm guessing just to get votes while campaigning.

Why is it that every time one of Palin's lies are exposed Obama gets mentioned?

GS, Alaska still received the money. Palin it directed it to other projects. So is she the reformer she claims to be? Or the Liar I believe her to be.

That community organizer article was pretty awesome. Community organizers were "recently vilified" by the GOP. Isn't it a good thing to be a community organizer? I had an uncle who was a Grand Dragon and I'll be damned if he wasn't able to rally his community around a cause they could all believe in. It's an inherently wonderful thing to organize a community and the GOP just doesn't realize it.

What? I truly don't see why it would be a bad thing if they voted for it?

"Guess who did vote for it? BO and Biden." And GS, whether it was a good idea to vote for it or not, has nothing to do with the argument.

She was for the bridge till she saw how much money it was going to cost. Then she switched. That is responsible governing in my book. Guess who did vote for it? BO and Biden The whole point is she was referring to being AGAINST earmarks and the "bridge to nowhere" was earmark spending. when she decided to be against it, after running on a campaign that supported it, she still kept all the money.

I'm sure Lieberman isn't expecting to be welcomed with open arms by Democrats. He had to know what he was doing. The article about the community organizer was great. I wish I could be that dedicated to my fellow humans. I admit I didn't really know what a Community Organizer did until I read that. Shame on Giuliani and Palin for degrading what they do. :irk:

According to factcheck.org, the bridge to nowhere earmark was already removed by congress before she said "No thanks". "This is not the first time Palin has cited her choice to kill the bridge in 2007 as an example of her anti-waste stance. It’s true that she did eventually nix the project. But the bridge was nearly dead already – Congress had removed the earmark, giving the requested money to the state but not marking it for any specific use. Palin unplugged its life support, declaring in 2007 that the funds would not be used for the Gravina bridge." And yet even today, she's going out to make this claim as a "reformer". I don't get it. To me it screams lie. Especially if you were for it, before you were against it. I wonder if she used any of that $$$ for her to work from home. Hmmmm http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/08/AR2008090803088.html?hpid=topnews
