Can Shopping Be Considered An Addiction?

Gambling, drinking, taking drugs and overeating are all considered forms of addiction. Some believe that shopping can be addictive too. The high that is attained through buying something special can suck you in and make you want more.

When it becomes a real problem is when you can't afford your habit anymore and your closet can't accommodate your habit anymore. Just look at Katie Holmes, Jessica Simpson or Lindsay Lohan. Do you think they have a shopping addiction or just a love of the sport?

Yes it is addictive but that's why I got my bf to keep me under control as far as shopping is concern other than that I'm the one who's takes care on the finances at home

most def. people get a "high" from buying something that makes them feel like they have acquired a certain level or statue. then the bills come and they feel bad and go shopping all over again. common (i've heard) with people who previously had eating disorders; trade one ocd obsession for another.

Absolutely. If you have an addictive personality, which usually runs in the genes, you can be addicted to almost anything. I think people become addicted to spending money frivolously because material things produce a quick rush of happiness, even mania, when they are newly purchased. But in order to re-create that mania, one must continuously buy new things. Material greed fills a void in some people. Whatever emptiness you feel in your soul is temporarily remedied by filling your closet. It's an easy net to get caught in.
