Curbing the Splurging

Dear Sugar
I never know what things to splurge on and what things to save money on. Ideally I'd like to buy the nicest of everything - shoes, bags, clothes, jewelry, etc...But I can't afford to. I don't want to appear like I dress/accessorize cheaply. What things necessitate paying full retail and what stuff can I get at Target or Marshalls?

Dear Sassy Suzanne
One way to get away with looking like you dress with impeccable and expensive taste is by going for a classic look. Invest in a beautiful pair of shoes and a timeless leather bag. Add a few staples to your wardrobe such as: a pencil skirt, a versatile black dress, and a smart, tailored dark suit. This way you can add cheaper, trendy pieces to your wardrobe but your main look will still be stylish and elegant. You can add any accessory you like; big earrings, a scarf or a bright colored top will add your own flair to the outfit. You can never go wrong by investing in a few traditional pieces.
