DEARSUGAR Needs Your Help: The Germinator

DEARSUGAR and Disinfecting Donna need your help. What to do when you've got a household with the flu? For all of you moms out there, do you have any tips to help her and her family get through this bout?

Dear Sugar
Both of my young kids have the flu and I expect that I will soon get it too. I have been cleaning like mad, wiping things down, using all types of anti-germ and bacteria fighting household cleansers. On top of that I have been taking vitamin C and echinacea to try and preserve my own health. Do you know of any additional precautions that I should be taking so that it doesn't spread? i'd just take emergen-c, drink lots of water and get lots of sleep. i'd stop using those anti-bacterial cleansers, they do more harm than good overall.

sick people use a different bathroom in my house. also, towels are color coded for each person and washed at the end of the day. i feed the sick person separately from everyone else and wash sheets and pj's every day.

You need to direct this to FitSugar...she knows all about germs and getting rid of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Be an innovator not an imitator...copying is plagiarism and plagiarism is stealing.

Be careful with using too many chemical cleaning agents, especially with kids in the house. I'd stick with the natural cleaning products, they sell them in most large grocery store chains. cgmaetc is right about cleaning the sheets and changing air filters, those are good suggestions, but I wouldn't wait til the kids are better, do it now, especially the airing out of the house, that's a simple way to get rid of the stale air in your home. As for preventing the illness from travelling to yourself, take a multivitamin, some extra vitamin C, and I also recommend olive leaf capsuls (you can by them at drug stores or health food stores).

I'd also suggest Airborne: it stops colds cold! As soon as your kids are better, air out your house. Vacuum, sweep, change sheets, and open the windows to let the germs out and the fresh air in. You might also want to change your air filter in your ac/heater. It can catch household germs. Make you kids wash their hands often and you do the same. -the ceeg
