Dear Poll: Do Flowers Make You Feel Better?

It's the season of long-stemmed roses and big bouquets, but my question is more about the flowers we sometimes get after a blowout argument or when our honey finds himself in the doghouse. While the gesture is very sweet, my wounds are only mended with time and understanding. It's possible that I'm in the minority on this one, so tell me, does getting flowers make you feel better?

I have no use for flowers. If my boyfriend and I have a disagreement, we make it better by talking it out, not by buying shit.

I have never gotten any apology flowers, but I wouldn't want to. When you get flowers for that reason, it seems like he doesn't really care, he just wants to suck up and get back in your good graces... its annoying. I would only want flowers if its a random time because he really thought of getting them himself just to be nice.

We rarely ever fight or get into arguments, so there's been no need for "apology flowers". He's gotten me roses every now & then, but he knows I don't really care for flowers. Honestly, I'd like to get something that doesn't die in a few days. That's just me. They are really pretty though... I'd rather have a garden! :)

I worked in a flower shop from hell one summer. All flowers do is remind me of thorn pricks, decaying petals, and a tyrannical disorganized nazi florist who paid poorly.

when he can't be with me.over the summer, we were apart for about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks at a time. and during one, he missed our nightly phone call because i went to bed, and he was in a movie. he missed me, and that morning he called me for my address because "his parents needed it for the trip to disney" (which we were taking and they were finalizing tickets and what not" i got flowers the next day with a really sweet note. it made me feel really good. i had flowers in my hair for the next few days.

They're sweet, and a compliment, but flowers tend to make me depressed, because they always die!

I've never gotten 'apology' flowers. That said, I've also never gotten any 'on occasion' flowers. Instead, I've gotten 'out of the blue' flowers sent to my workplace several times. I'm always caught off guard, too, and my co-workers will ask, "What is the occasion?" I'm a little bit embarrassed when I say, "There is none. Just a nerdy dork thinking about me." Haha!

Agree with Hootie, lol. Not a flower person at all!

it depends on why I am getting them, if its a surprise then I am super stoked but if its a make up gift Im not usually too impressed unless its outrageously beautiful. sometimes when I am having a bad week, I buy myself flowers and those make me happy ;)

I've thrown apology flowers in the garbage before. But he was SERIUOSLY in the doghouse. It wasn't just a stupid fight.

I've never gotten apology flowers. Oh, one time my boyfriend gave me an apology candy bar. I didn't really know how to feel about it. On the one hand, it's like he's trying to earn my affection with it, but on the the other hand it's sweet of him to think to get me something I like. It was over just a little argument we had where he was being a jerk so it wasn't an issue. I don't think I'd appreciate gifts for a major fight though.

No. They just die. I'd rather have the $$$. LOL...

i haven't gotten any apology flowers either... but i think they would make me feel better. just a nice small gesture after a fight.. doesn't mean he's trying to sweep it under the rug or anything, but just cares about me enough to still want me to feel better. i love the idea.

I love getting flowers, and my guy usually gets them for romantic reasons (the last batch came during a candle-lit dinner at New Year's) or when I've had a horrible day. He hasn't gotten me flowers to try to apologize for something, so they're still a good thing for me.

my guy is perfect when it comes to surprises. if he knows i'm having a stressful day at work he'll always surprise me with a bottle of wine or flowers. his dad told him that if he keeps his lady happy he'll be happy. it's a really simple concept that guys and girls alike should live by. flowers after a fight...i think that it doesn't fix everything, but it's a nice way to start the healing process.

I love getting flowers, though I've never really gotten any from a guy. The guy I was recently dating never gave me anything, let alone flowers. I mentioned it to him once and he told me he couldn't do that because he isn't a romantic like I am. Go figure! If I do receive them I want my future bf to give me them for no reason at all. Like he got them for me "just because its Tuesday and I love you". That would work wonders in my book! :P

I like it except for when the guy you are seeing sends you AND HIS EX GIRLFRIEND flowers from THE SAME PLACE AT THE SAME TIME! lolol

I LOVE getting flowers! He gets em for me all the time....never because of an argument though. Flowers are always just because.

the nicest time to get flowers (red roses!!!) is for no reason at all other than he saw them and knew u'd love them *sigh*

jspeed, I agree. Apology flowers are not good. I prefer getting flowers or gifts because of other reasons.
