Dear Poll: Do You Kiss Hello?

A lot of people in my social circle follow the European style of greeting each other with two hello kisses. In some groups, only men and women greet each other this way, while other times, women just kiss hello with their girlfriends. Some people are just uncomfortable with the whole idea. What about you?

By the way, I don´t airkiss but kiss, what happens is that sometimes is so fast that there isn´t a lot of contact.

I´m Spaniard and yes I do! We kiss each other on the cheek twice. In France, Italy or Switzerland it´s typical to give three kisses. Anyway in most european countries kisses on cheeks are for friends, but in Spain we kiss on the cheek to the people that we have just known too.

When I'm in Europe and living in Britain I do when saying both hello and goodbye, but when I go back to the States I don't. I really like this custom and wish it could be imported to America. I just think it's a really polite and sweet gesture.

The two kiss greeting is pretty normal here in south Florida with the Cuban-American community and other international communities so I gotta say yes. I adapted to doing this after moving here.

I'm from Argentina and here, not kissing in the cheek when greeting ANYBODY (stranger, relative, or friend) is consider extremely rude.. so yes...i definetely kiss on the cheek Also.."air kissing" (really obvious air kissing) is considered a sign of dislike towards the other person.. it feels weird and most parents tell off their kids for air kissing.. you're supposed to make SOME kind of contact and noise... It is no big deal...but sometimes it is really annoying.. especially when arriving at a big gathering where you don't know a lot of of people and you are still required to go round kissing hello!!

I only kiss my family on the cheek. They're from Mexico and it's the custom there to kiss on the cheek to greet.I think it would be a little awkward if I started kissing my friends on the cheek.

I always air kiss my friends. No one has ever felt uncomfortable by it, and if they did they didn't say anything. My friends expect it. I kiss everyone.

I was brought to greet family and close friends with a kiss on the cheek. Whenever I walk into a family gathering, the first thing to do is make the rounds to kiss hello! Sometimes it's lips-to-cheek (always with grandmothers), but it's usually cheek-to-cheek or an air kiss.

It depends =) I live in Belgium and I kiss my family three times when we haven't seen eachother a long time. At college, we sometimes kiss one time on the cheek to say hello.

My whole family is french canadian, so the whole kiss-and-greet is a big part of our family gatherings. It's only ever awkward when it's someone you hardly know.

Yes I kiss and hug most of my friends when I greet them. I guess being British I do qualify as European. It started when I started secondary school as I had an amazingly cool and gorgeous French teacher and she told us it was customary, and all the girls started, and I never stopped!

Uh, you're not SUPPOSED to kiss on the cheek. True Europeans actually don't kiss on the cheek, and you can learn this if you watch or read about their culture. They actually go up to the cheek and you kiss the air, and repeat with the other side. But there actually is no physical kissing.
