Dear Poll: Do You Still Turn to Your Mom?

There's just something about the relationship you have with your mom. Of course both parents love their kids unconditionally, but moms are usually the ones who possess those loving, nurturing qualities we all crave from time to time. Since I'm close with my mom, I rely on her for everything from cooking tips to a warm home when I'm sick. Even though I'm a grown adult, it's still her advice that puts my indecisiveness at bay. Are you the same way? Do you still turn to your mom when the going gets tough?

If I had a good relationship with my mom, I definitely would! I long for it, but it's not happening. So for general things I turn to my dad. Relationship advice..I have my sisters.

My mom is probably my best friend. She doesn't always have the best advice, but she is the only person I know who can put things into perspective. My sister has given her a lot of trouble in the past so over the last few years we have become really close. She always tells me I'm her saving grace, which is very reciprocal.

I totally love my mom and she's my biggest hero but I try not to turn toher for every little thing because I don't want to worry her and because part of the thing I admire about her is that she taught me to be independent and think for myself. I know some people who won't make any sort of decision without their parents approval and frankly I'm glad my mom didn't make me into one of those people

I love my Mommy and I don't know what I would do without her!! She will always tell me the truth... even its hurts, which I really appreciate. She is always there when I need her... she's my best friend.

I turn to my mom for alot. She's the one I go get advice from before anyone else. There is nothing about my life that my mom doesn't know.

Yep, all the time. My mom is the most optimistic person so she really helps balance out the a little of the pessimism I got from my dad's side. She's also a retired teacher and is helping me set up my classroom, plan, and do everything since I'm a first year teacher. I honestly don't know what I would do without her.

lolalu, that's wonderful. I am sure I will do the same thing someday (but I love my mom so much I can't even think about that... I will be so sad).

My mom and I get along fine, but we're not "close" in a way that I talk to her about anything. I don't rely on her for anything.

No, my mom couldn't provide support if her life depended upon it.

Once in a while but not much. My mom always took good care of us and provided for us, but she was never the über-maternal, nurturing mom. So I turn to my mom with practical stuff, like doing my laundry at her place when our dryer breaks, but it's rare that I turn to her for emotional support

I love my mom. She's like the cheerleader that never stops. There are some things that bug me about her and some things I can't tell her. However, all in all she's the greatest and I will always go to her when I need a shoulder to cry on, advice, etc.

Always, every day. My mum is the best friend I'll ever have and I couldn't love her any more than I do.

Growing up I was soley a daddys girl. We discussed everything from friendships to relationships to personal issues, but when he left 6 years ago I only had my mother to turn to. Sure she gave me advice and I listened. Its what we do, we listen to our mothers. After a life changing event this year it really helped to clear my head. My mother never gave me the RIGHT advice, she gave me HER advice. I now don't ask her for anything. She has shown her true colors in being too judgemental, too disapproving, too self-centered. It doesn't mean I don't love her and respect her, I just don't think I will be asking her what she thinks about the next exciting event in my life!

Sometimes. There are things that I don't ever dare tell her, but if ever I do need some advice on stuff that I know she's already experience, I always make sure to just knock on her door and talk. Unfortunately, since my relationships never really fascinate her, I just never talk to her about guys.

I still rely on my mom but in a bizarre way. She passed away a few years ago, but I still 'talk' to her. Some people think its weird, but I've always felt that she hears me and helps me out in an unexplainable way. I know it sounds a little coo-coo, but its really helped me over the years.

i love my mother. she's SUCH a mother. one time I sprained my ankle and called her crying (because it hurt!) and asked her if blood would come out of my jeans (skinned my knee along with the sprain). And she came out to the city from the suburbs to help me take care of myself that evening.I've since moved away from my parents, but that doesn't stop her from being motherly. I broke my wrist in January, and she flew out for a weekend in February to help me out then, too.Maybe I'm spoiled, but I'm not asking for her help...she does it on her own :)
