Dear Poll: Do you Think Celebrities do Enough?

Ever since Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, he has been raising awareness and money, putting the disease on the radar, desperately trying to find a cure. Magic Johnson does the same thing for AIDS, Lance Armstrong for cancer, Brooke Shields for postpartum depression, Tom Cruz for dyslexia, etc...

Putting a face the world recognizes to a disease and/or a cause is a great way to raise awareness and money. While these celebrities are doing all they can for their chosen charities, do you think every celebrity should be doing the same thing?

this may sound a little cynical but almost everyone needs to do more to help. this is especially true for celebrities since they are in the spotlight and are in the position to get more people involved and maybe stop spending ridiculous amounts of money on flying out their makeup artists because of a last minute "emergency". there are so many celebrities that spend ludicrous amounts of money on a bag that could feed hundreds of families...sorry for that little rant, its just frustrating somtimes. even though you don't make millions of dollars, you should do what you can. i'm a full time student with two jobs, barely scraping by to pay the bills but i am still able to spare a few dollars and my time to a particular cause. if everyone could do the same thing (either volunteering their time or money), it would make a HUGE difference.

Celebrites can do what they can what more do you want from them.

No.....IMO there are some who give very generously and then there are other celebrities with the means who don't do anywhere near enough.

I think many celebrities do take part in charity organizations, etc., because they really want to or they have somehow been affected by what the organization supports/stands for/prevents (Ashley Judd, Michael J. Fox, Lance Armstrong). I think some celebs do it for publicity, but you don't want to go around accusing them of that. I mean, using your fame for a good cause is still good. And the majority of celebs who make it into the magazines are the 20-somethings who shop all day long.

truth be told i don't think anyone does "enough" if we did there wouldn't be the need there is.

Some of them do a wonderful job (Oprah, Ellen, Pamela Anderson, etc...) and then there are the others, and I agree with KendalHeart that it is mainly the young ones, who don't care much about anyone but themselves. I think one of the good things about being high profile is that you can use your popularity and wealth to benefit those who are less fortunate. We all need to do are part, so it's great when a celeb sets a good example.

I think that in some ways; yes they should donate because they do make a heck of a lot. However if it's their talent to act or sing or whatever then why should they have to care about the whole world when they didn't ask to make that much for what they are doing they just happen to have a talent in a field where they make a lot of money. I think in a perfect world everyone would make the same amount and the higher paying jobs would be the ones for the people that do the dirty jobs or make the world a better place. Also there is no reason to have 43549 award shows every year for actors. It's like yes, you are in the public eye and you may do a great job but I don't care about you slightly doing your job better then someone else. It's like saying "Yes you cleaned that toliet so well! Allow us to give you 5 awards this year alone and next year we'll see who can do it again!"

i'm glad some celebrities put their fame and good fortune to use. i'm probably a jerk, but whatever. i think those who don't donate a substantial amount should be taxed to high heaven. there is no excuse for having a coat that costs as much as the average american's yearly salary. there, i said it. :p

I like to see celebrities donating time, money, effort into raising awareness for important charities. It does get a bit irritating though when they start to encourage us little peons to donate our money, considering they can donate hundreds of thousands of dollars or even millions and not blink, and have handbags that cost as much as a years salary for some.

It is good though that when there is something that is close to their hearts, they put something into it, someone who has a personal experience with something

Okay, i guess i should say MOST of these 20 somethings, not all

I think it depends on the celeb. All these little bratty 20 something year olds do not do nearly enough...they are selfish right now but shoud use what they have.
