Dear Poll: Do you Think Rehab is the Answer?

Michael Richards, Mel Gibson and Don Imus oh my... just to name a few. Celebrities have been drying out in rehab for years, but their reasons for seeking treatment are getting juicier and juicer by the second. No longer are treatment centers solely for drug and alcohol dependency, but rather racism, anger, and stress as well.

It seems like every time a public figure finds themselves in hot water, they blame their actions and remarks on some sort of dependency and run to rehab for shelter instead of being held accountable for their behavior. How do you all feel about this new phenomenon? Do you think celebrities are cowardly blaming their outbursts on abuse or do you feel they are in fact victims of addiction?

The word rehab is becoming a joke in hollywood. I don't think anyone it taking it seriously anymore.

i agree with toxxic, that rehab is a good start but they also need to own up to their actions and say they were wrong and that it wasn't something they couldn't help because you can help it. you don't have to say those things and if you even think those things then you need to get help.

People arent just going to change by going into rehab BUT its a good start to begin to see things and open up and admit a problem. True most of them are doing it for image but its a shame we cant give them all a chance just to see if there rehab helped them see things a little more clearly. Some people are brought up and raised a certian way hearing certain things and get used to talking a certain way even thouh they do know its wrong and might not even think that way but when you get out of control or relax to much things do slip. I think rehab is a good chance to redeem your self if you actually pay attention to it. --- its a been there done that sorta thing

Too many celebrities go into rehab not because they have a strong desire to work out some things, but because they feel it's good for their tarnished image. Under those circumstances, it isn't going to make one iota of difference in that person in the longrun. Rehab has become a joke.

i think its sad that our collective focus is on the words of a few rather than the actions of many. what happened to "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me"? people like imus are being given too much power. if we don't like what they say turn the channel, don't buy the products they promote, etc. this week was the 50th anniversary of the first black player in major league baseball; a huge event in the day. 50 years ago people looked to the future with hope and expected great things. these days we look no farther than the end of the week. we click links for crotch less pix of "starlets" and video of celebrities using racial slurs. instant horrifying is so much more interesting to us than long term glorifying. sad isn't it?

I think it's basically a PR stunt to go into rehab.

Absolutely Kendallheart! If you happen to be a public figure and enjoy the wealth and fame that comes with it you need to realize that there are responsabilities that come with that. What you say in public will affect people you are an example to others the whole world is watching you. Once you put that image out there blaming it on alcohol or drugs or going to rehab isn't going to change it.

You cannot go to rehab and "let go" of your hate for a particular religion, race, sex, or sexual preference. Our country has denied denied denied being like this but its proven time and time again that we have deep rooted hate issues as a whole. Very sad!
