Dear Poll: Does Dating Impair Your Diet?

I know many people vowed to keep their weight in check this new year, but if you're newly in love or on the dating circuit, that task can feel like an impossibility when you factor in dinner dates, drinking, and overall indulging. On the other hand, some women actually lose weight in the beginning stages of love — feeling their best transforms into looking their best — but of course it all depends on the person and the situation. So ladies, looking back at your dating history, tell me, does having a relationship wreak havoc on your diet?

nope...I never gain weight during a relationship, thank goodness. I usually try to eat healthier so I don't ever lose my "looks"...but it always seems like the guys I date always gain an ENORMOUS amount of weight. Why is that? I hate when guys get TOO comfortable!

I lose weight when I first start dating someone. I am nervous/excited and can't eat when I'm like that haha. :-P :) But after a bit I'm back to normal and stay the same.

when i first started dating people after taking a break i lost 7lbs due to pure stress of figuring out this dating thing. then when i met my now boyfriend all that stress went away and i gained it all and few more pounds.

Yes, dating impairs my diet. It sucks. When I first dated my boyfriend , we both gained weight. Now that we r friends I lost tons of weight.

All those dinner dates! And you don't want to look picky or like a health nut by having some salad.

Yes dating someone does make my weight increase slight. I notice a lil more snug in my skinny jeans and backup skinny jeans.

I'm addicted to working out as well. But I tend to lose weight, I don't like eating in front of people because I used to be thirty pounds heavier, so now it's like an "eat very little" thing. I don't want to draw attention to myself. Plus, I seem to date very active guys. So we are always doing something fun and not sitting around on our butts.

It depends on how that person eats - my last boyfriend was really into meat and junk food and sad to say, I definitely picked up his eating habits. However my current BF is a real gourmet and eats small amounts of really good stuff, which I like. Since we're long distance anyway it's up to me to eat healthily and I'm trying very hard!

No... I'm addicted to exercising so it doesn't matter either way.

My friends said I got "fatter" after I started dating my ex ... probably because he always took me out to nice restaurants.

It always seems to in some way! Either I'm in the early stages of a relationship and eating out a lot, or I'm dating a guy who always orders way too much food (last boyfriend) and I'm dating someone who cooks richly delicious meals (currently). But I guess that's a nice problem to have.

Yup it's so easy to slip into that routine of eating out or munching on snacks. So the bf and I have gotten into the habit of going to the gym... that way we're not being lazy on the couch and mindlessly snacking!

i always seem to mysteriously lose weight when i'm falling for someone at the beginning of it all, i think because like zabrow i have a constant rollercoaster sensation of nausea nervousness excitement blah blah blah and i don't eat much due to that. also even if we do go out at night i'm thinking about it all day and can't eat, as well as the fact that i find myself happier and more preoccupied when i'm dating someone i like so i don't lounge around as much.

I usually gain more when I'm depressed so when I'm with someone I tend to maintain or only gain a little. Then I get a fire lit under my booty and decide to workout and look good so I can keep him. That's what I'm working on right now ;)

when i first start dating someone i really reeeally like, i lose weight because i get butterflies so bad that i can't eat. but then after the first few weeks/months, i gain from going out to eat more & then coming home to lay around & snuggle instead of going to the gym.

Omg yes! Dating means eating out all the time. When my bf and I started seeing each other that's all we did. We both love good fattening food. I think we both gained weight. I know I did for sure. I'm just starting to get back on track to lose the weight that I gained so I can be ready for the summer.

i did with my boyfriend because i had been working out and eating so well for so long and then all the sudden i was eating out 5 times a week, we have a drink or two every night, and i cook him delicious stuff, and i don't have as much time to go home to the gym cuz it's the opposite end of town as his place...so yah for sure!

I'm with you Lix. I've never really put on any weight before in any of my relationships, but the guy I'm dating now as been my longest relationship and he LOVES to eat out and grab yummy (read: evil and deliciously fried) foods so a little bite here and there, a skipped day or two at the gym and suddenly the pants so fit so well anymore. It's tough indeed!

I seem to be luckiest in dating after I have been working out consistently for a couple of weeks... I am feeling my best and giving off a pretty confident vibe. When I meet someone though, I begin to spend more time when them and less time at the gym. We giggle over drinks, munch on snacks while doing a movie etc. It gets tough out there!

My weight doesn't fluctuate depending on if I'm dating someone or not, I do it for me not some guy.
