Dear Poll: Have You Ever Actually Had a One-Night Stand?

One-night stands are tricky territory, especially when considering STIs. There are some who truly do enjoy a casual sex encounter, but for many, keeping sex casual is extremely difficult. I know both men and women who had greater expectations from hookupz than just a one-night stand, which left them feeling disappointed and dissatisfied. And yet, they still happen all the time. Since we're all anonymous here, I want to know: Have you ever participated in a one-night stand?

No, I would never do that-with a stranger. I might do that with someone I already knew but casual sex with a perfect stranger or someone I don't know well is way too risky.

Cravinsugar - I think it's important to realise that if something happens against your will, the circumstances (drinking, being alone with someone) do not matter. The heart of the matter is you were forced to have sex when you did not want to - and the legal definition of that situation is rape. Never blame yourself. Society does a good enough job indoctrinating you to think that way, but it's not helpful. You are not to blame. I've been in a similar situation some 3 years back now, and it's taken me about 2,5 to figure out that no, it wasn't my fault and yes, that was rape.

Sorry its a novel, but I have been dying to share this with someone. I don't have anyone I can talk to about this.

I recently had a one night stand. It was my first time doing anything like that and only my 3rd sexual encounter. I was always one of those people who said I would never do anything like that. I was married over 15 years and was faithful the whole time. The guy I had this encounter with was an acquaintance I worked with. We would talk on IM or have coffee every 4 or 5 months but not regularly. I always thought he was a nice guy and very intelligent. He IM'd me one night while I was working and wanted to drop by so I said ok. I wish now I hadn't. He is much younger than me and when he showed up I could smell alcohol on him. We talked for a while and I think out of sheer loneliness I let things get out of hand. He came over for one thing and one thing only and I allowed myself to give in. It was not enjoyable, it was over so fast and after the fact he said he was going to step out and have a smoke then be right back. I heard him get in his car and drive away. I felt so used and like a whore. He has not spoken to me since and I don't know why I should want him to. I never thought he would ever do anything like that. I never will again...I wish I could take it all back.

when i was going to school overseas, i had a one night stand that i thought was all it was going t be, but low and behold i started dating this guy and we had a 6 month relationship - so it wasn't so bad. i don't really think that there's anything wrong with them if you're using protection. i think that we live in a time when it's socially acceptable to put yourself out there if that's what you want to do - as long as you're safe. there are too many consequences if you're not careful.

No, but I had something similar. Met a guy at a club, went out with him a week later....then never talked to him again after that night (by choice--he really pissed me off).

Nitachequita-Thanks. I still don't see it as rape even though it was technically. It was someone i thought I knew as a friend, actually, him and another man. I had been drinking, and my girl friends ditched me and went home before it happened so I pretty much blame myself for getting in the situation. I have always just counted that night as 2 people I had done it with, but never explained it to anyone. I can count the different people on 1 hand anyways, even with that.

I have had a few, and I really see nothign wrong with them. I enjoyed everything. I don't really talk to those guys anymore, even tho they're on the outskirts of my huge circle of friends. But we all knew what we were getting into so it's not like either of us tried to see a relationship from it.Also, i think when i have sex with someone that i don't have to worry about hurting their feelings, is WAY fun. i really get to concentrate on me and do what i want. I'm young. i get to do what i want! Also i have to admit that they have helped me become a lot more comfortable with myself, my body, and what my body can do for the same reason that i have more fun. They don't have to care about MY feelings ,and are honest. And when THAT still gets compliments, hello confidence.

They r difficult, or maybe just 4 me cos i knew it was a no strings attached thing which was fine but i still wanted 2 keep n touch. maybe make it a 2 nite stand...a permanent booty call I guess but it doesn't always work out that way.

I have...couple summers ago between my high school and college years. It was definately fun and although i may regret some....it was definately a growing experiance as a person and I wouldn't take any of it back, because it made me who I am right now. And actually, one of them actually turned out to be my current boyfriend(we've been dating for over a year) and so there IS a possibility you can end up with someone great. it's about learning what kinds of people you like, and don't like.

cravinsugar - if it was against your will, it wasn't a one night stand, it was rape. i'm glad you were able to tell your fiance about it, and you should never ever ever accept anyone judging you for it.

A one night stand isn't so bad when you know this is the person you want to be with! I did it a few times with the man I'm with now and it turned out great! We ended up being together for 5 yrs.. so I don't think there so bad but it can cause problem's! I guess you have to have a good experience in order to judge this situation!

a few times but i felt pretty used and the guys i was with weren't nice guys, so i promised myself no sex unless i'm dating/in a relationship now.

Yeah, I've had a few, but I was young and stupid and drunk. It's not something I would do now. Luckily I was smart enough to use protection!
