Dear Poll: Have You Ever Gone to a Movie Alone?

I'm a big promoter of doing things alone, mostly because I don't like missing out on things just because I have no one to do them with. While I haven't braved going out to a sit-down restaurant alone, I have gone to a movie theater multiple times by myself, and found the experience weird only because it wasn't uncomfortable. Going solo is great because I didn't have to feel guilty about dragging someone to a movie they didn't want to see. Some people think I'm crazy when I tell them I do this, so ladies, what I want to know is, have you ever gone to see a movie by yourself?

I haven't gone to a movie by myself, but after working at a movie theater for over a year, I noticed that it was definitely not uncommon for people to see movies by themselves. I'd only feel slightly akward if the auditorium was mostly empty.. but otherwise, it's not a problem.

I've done it once, but felt a bit funny doing it. I can't explain why, but I feel more comfortable eating alone than I do at a movie! Weird huh.

I've done it before. I usually went in the mornings when the films were cheaper and I was just there with some other older people, many of whom were also there alone. It was nice to not be in a packed theater.

It's my favorite ME TIME thing to do, besides reading and shopping. Once, I went to a movie and was in the theater by myself. It was my own private screening. Such a blast!

i go every week. i watch movies for one of the major studios and report what people thought about the movies and the trailers. lots of people go to the movies by themselves, especially during the day. mostly it's people over 30 and typically a movie that has been out longer than a few weeks (maybe everyone else already saw it) or a movie that is not main stream (no one else would go with them?).

Yes! I don't get to go as often as I used to with a toddler around, but I used to love my 'secret' movie life. I would go see movies that my husband didn't want to see. I enjoyed the time alone, watching horrible chick-flicks guilt-free. :-)

I go alone all the time, and with friends all the time too...I watch a LOT of movies. I love both in different ways, although I think I prefer going with friends. My main reason for going solo is simply because none of my other friends want to watch the movie, and if its something I'm dying to see in the cinema, I'm certainly not going to miss out!

I've done the movie thing alone and love it (to see the Devil Wears Prada). I've also done dinner alone because my friends said that it was great but it was not, it was boring and awkward, I do not recommend it at all!

I haven't done this--yet. It's really on my To-Do list now, though. I just want to finally see what this feels like. Maybe I'll learn something new about myself.

never have but I might during the day at night everyone brings their dates and all that would be a bit awkward.

Unless there was a movie out I simply couldn't wait to see no matter what, I don't usually go to the movie theater at all. If it was the case of a movie I was absolutely DYING to see and no one else i knew was interested, I have no problem going alone.

All the time. If I waited on other people to see something I'm interested in, I would never go. Plus it's cheaper for me to go by myself because I can eat before I get there and if I decide I want popcorn and candy, I don't have to share.

Yes, I have but usually during the day when I'm having a "me" day.

I do. I remember someone telling me, why should i be scared to attend a movie by myself, when journalist do it all the time. Most of the time my friends don't want to see the films i want to see so i normally go into the city and check out some films on my own. I tend to enjoy them more because i pay more attention to the film.

i dont do it, mostly because of the cost, i prefer to really enjoy myself with friends or my honey when im spending so much more than i would to see a movie at home. i did it once by mistake when i was visiting nyc and i thought i was getting a great deal for an of broadway play but it was just an independent film... the director showed up for commentary though!

There's nothing absolutely psycho about going anywhere alone, although I haven't gone to the movies all by my lonesome before.

It's fantastic! When I realized that I kept dragging my boyfriend to movies he didn't want to see(at $10 a ticket) I decided it would be better to go without him. He's just simply not a movie person! It's even worse to drag a friend, because you can't even talk to them, so it's so pointless.I love going to the movies alone! It's so relaxing, I might catch one today!
