Dear Poll: Are You Old or Young For Your Age?

If age is just a number, then appearance isn’t the only thing that makes a person seem older or younger. In fact, I always have a terrible time guessing a person's age because I base my assumption on her personality more than anything else. Taking into account your personality over your appearance, how does your outward attitude compare to the age on your driver's license?

People are always commenting on how they "couldn't believe I was just ___ years old!" yadda yadda... Sometimes it has its perks but sometimes I wonder. Will it all come back and bite me? :S

I think I act my age, (22) and sometimes I feel older than some of my older friend b/c they can be really immature. I have been told that I seem more mature than my age so I take it as a compliment. I definatly don't LOOK my age though. I always get that I look about 18...not cool!

I get younger mostly. But I'm flattered sometimes when I come across as appearing older. But I'm the baby of the family, so I think that personality shows itself out of me more.

I look a lot younger than I am and I can be quite childish, one of my best friends is my little sister, and shes 15. However I'm sort of grown up because I love to get up early and watch the tv and I stay at home and look after my sister while my parents party.

I'm 19 (twenty in August) and I feel defenetly older than others my age. It has always been like that. I'm already thinking how I should start my savings etc. My friends have very different ideas about money and future. Actually I have come down on my maturity-level. I started buying my clothes from women's section when I was 13, it is not so odd today. :D On the other hand I'm very light-spirited and it can look outside even childish.

In terms of personality, I often get mistaken for older. In a recent job interview, the manager kept commenting on how mature I was for being 20. I've also had professors and fellow students tell me the same thing. However, People think I'm younger than my age based on my appearance. I have an odd look about me because I have a baby face, tall height, and very thin body structure. I get mistaken for an overgrown adolescent if I have no makeup on and a bummy outfit.

I honestly have no idea. I get a lot of people who say I LOOK younger than I really am and I think I'd also have to ask someone else's opinion personality wise. I'm no good at self analysis.

oh and to the person who said this "I can't even say that I got the wild stuff out of my system, because it was never in my system" that's basically me too!

I'm 21 and physically I definitely look younger than my age. I am frequently mistaken for 15-16ish. But I've always been very mature for my age. I am the responsible one in my relationship - I take care of bills, plan the future, etc. But sometimes I don't feel like an adult yet! lol I'm all mixed up!

Other. I am an old soul with an inner child. Personality-wise, it varies. Certain aspects of life call for more class, tact, and maturity i.e. my job, responsible driving, pay bills on time, drinking alcohol rarely, being your typical, good-natured citizen. Still I reserve my fun-loving childlike tendencies for people I care about. Regardless of my demeanor, childlike or mature, strangers can't get over me telling them my age after they've guessed or assumed wrong. They're too biased by my physical appearance. While I was out with my parents last year, the cashier at a buffet asked if I was 'underage' with regard to the menu i.e. under 13 years old. I was 25 and dammit, I have boobs and curves! Most tweenies don't have that. =/ I still get carded for 'R' movies and 'M' video games. And, being served alcohol can become a chore at certain restaurants who believe my id is fake. Oh well...

I have responsibilities that sometimes make me feel old, but I am usually thought to be about 5-7 years younger than my age. I have always been an old but high spirited soul. Yay for late bloomers.

I'm 23 and married so in that respect I'm older than my age. I am definitely more mature than my friends but most of them are younger than me.

It varies. I definitely look younger than 24 - when I started a new job a few months ago, people were like, "who's that college kid and why is she behind that desk?" Older people especially tend to perceive me as younger and "baby" me a lot, and sometimes I do find myself acting younger when that happens. Among my peers, though, I'm kind of a boring old lady :p I don't go out a lot at night, and when I do I'm pretty tame - I don't like the feeling of being drunk, so I limit how much I drink, and I don't even enjoy places that are too loud or crowded. I'd rather have a nice dinner with friends, but they're all "that's too expensive" - then they'll go spend at least that much on drinks and cover charges! I can't even say that I got the wild stuff out of my system, because it was never in my system, but who knows, maybe I'm just setting myself up for one hell of a midlife crisis.

I chose undecided. I'm 19 years old but most people think I seem a few years older because of my looks and maturity (most of the time). I'm pretty reserved, modest, and traditional compared to most crazy college girls my age but I also love to act like a kid. I'm still obsessed with everything Disney!

Whoa, what is it with all the 21-year-olds up here? Seriously, it feels like everyone in my age group is pouncing on this question. I mostly feel a lot younger than I really am. But that's mostly because I don't drive, still live at home, and really don't get out much. Yes, I lead a sad life.

Appearance-wise, I look much younger than my age. I'm in my 30's, and last year, I was mistaken for a high school student (by another 30-something year old woman!). I was dismayed by that, so I deliberately gained one dress size. Recently, I was mistaken for a college student, so that's a little better. A college student is a legal adult, whereas a high school student is minor (a kid, really). At least I look like an adult now. Also, when I go out alone, I get hit on by college students and high school boys. It's laughable (and annoying). Aside from my appearance, on the inside, I'm mature for my age. Personality-wise, I consider myself older than my physical age (and appearance). My husband often teases me about that. He fancies me a bit of a freak -- young on the outside, old on the inside. I seem like one big contradiction.

I am far more responsible than my 21 years, but I can certainly let loose and have fun like a child. People keep mistaking me for a high school senior though, and I get hit on by high-schoolers with alarming frequency.

I'm 28... I feel like an "old soul" sometimes. But then on the flip side, I don't feel like an adult yet. I feel like a kid who just wants to go climb a tree or two. I don't think about it too much, I just roll with it.

People always think that I'm in college.. it's so weird. I'm only going to be a sophomore in high school next year. I'm just really mature for my age.

I'm 26 but people always assume I am younger & are shocked when I tell them Im married. People even think that my sister who is 4 yrs younger seems older than me. I take it as a compliment but does it mean I am immature????
