Do Teens Keep Abstinence Pledges?

If You Signed an Abstinence Pledge, Did You Keep It?

Some of you have friends who signed abstinence pledges and we all know celebrities who have, but a few of us have actually pledged to abstinence ourselves.

Considering the most public face of abstinence is a teen mom, it's not surprising they have a reputation for being ineffective.

Let's get unscientific and see how true or false that reputation is. If you signed one, did you keep it?

I didn't sign a pledge, and I didn't have a parent that pushed the wait for marriage thing. She sat down and told me the mechanics and told me to wait until the person really meant something to me, and explained the typical guy behavior vs emotional aspect. Much better approach imo.

I never signed a pledge, but I got a purity ring in high school. I swore up and down that I was going to wait until marriage. After high school, I lost 15 pounds and the ring didn't fit anymore.... it went downhill after that :P Met my ex, he was my first and only. Oh well, I don't regret it at all.

We had to sign or we didn't pass our Home Ec class! It really didn't work for the kids already having sex, and I broke it a few years later, when I was "in love". The pledge did nothing to discourage any of us.

My high school had us sign little cards to carry around with us. It even had tips on how to deal with temptation. Didn't help me though, at least not for more than a year.

I never officially signed a "pledge" but I did talk about wanting to wait until after marriage, because it was important to me. And I did keep that!
