Do Tell: Have You Ever Been Mugged?

Paris Hilton recently had her home robbed, but thankfully, she wasn't home or hurt. Often, having your house robbed is more of a financial trauma, while being held up at knife- or gunpoint can be far more of an emotional trauma. Have you ever been mugged? Was it scarier for the experience, or were you more upset about what you lost? And how did you work to get over it?

Nah, I've never been mugged. I don't carry a purse or anything obviously attractive very often; that might have something to do with it. My rule is: If it won't fit securely in my pockets or on my person and I don't absolutely need it on this trip, it's not coming with me. I hope I never get mugged or robbed from my home. I know what I would do, but I don't know how effective it would be - I might end up hurt or dead. @_@ I have had my phone and jackets stolen while I was at school...blame the test anxiety for getting me to let down my guard.

I've never been mugged or come even close to it, but my friends and family have been mugged or threatened for their belongings.

No thank god. I am overly cautious and totally paranoid so I try to keep safe.

beautiful disaster -- I was mugged in Argentina too! I studied abroad in Buenos Aires for five months, and the night before I was supposed to leave my friend and I went out with my host family to a tango bar. After a couple of hours they encouraged us to go out and enjoy our last night (so cute), so we started walking to a bar we had been to that was a few blocks away. One block away from the bar a guy walks up to us. He pulls out a gun and tells us to give him our purses or he'll shoot (in Spanish). We do, he left (AND WAVED as he left -- jerk), and we kind of had a freak out after he was gone. Then we had to walk back to the Tango bar, let my family know what had happened and take a taxi home with my host sister. It was a horrible way to leave the country :( Thankfully all I lost was a cell phone (not a nice one), a camera (old, needed to be replaced) and about 30 pesos (most of it in change though, which is freaking hard to accumulate!).

I've never been mugged, but when I was younger my house got broken into a couple of times. Thankfully my family never got hurt, but they did hurt us emotionally by stealing our poodle, my bunny, and other material things... but nothing mattered compared to our pets. I just hope that they were taken care of in loving homes, but I don't know if that happened since the people that stole them were probably low lives. :( Sad....

i got mugged in front of my house a few years ago. my then-boyfriend and i were sitting outside at about 11 at night and noticed a car kept slowly driving by... then the car stopped, just as we were going back inside. two guys got out - one went after me, and the other stuck a gun at my ex-bf's head. i tried backing away and refused to give him my purse (so stupid), but finally just gave in and they drove away. we were mostly shaken up. i just realized that i need to be aware of my surroundings, follow my instincts, and that even though you're in a nice area/neighborhood, anything can happen.

Wow, mugging is really sad. I've never been robbed or mugged, and I'm sorry for people who have. I just think its funny that Paris Hilton, got robbed.

Nope, never. You'd think I have, living in Brazil and all. I don't live a sheltered life, either. I guess it's just luck. Or maybe it's because I'm black? I don't know.

i've never been mugged, but my apartment got broken into a couple of months ago. they kicked my door down and stole my laptop and a bunch of jewelry. it was so unnerving to come home to my apartment in disarray, and just know that a stranger had been through all of my personal things :( But I am so thankful I wasn't home, because the robber accidentally left behind a knife on my couch... so knowing they were armed was very scary.

me and a friend were held at gun point last december. we were on our way to a friends house at midnight, and since her house is only 3 blocks away from the bus stop we decided to walk (stupid stupid stupid thing to do at night in argentina) about half a block away from the bus stop i see 2 men and already got that feeling of "oh sh!t, how to i get out of this now?" suddenly the taller one pulled a HUGE gun out from behind him and said "ladies, this is a mugging. give us everything you have and noone gets hurt" i litterally threw my bag at him. I managed to keep my cell and money because those are things i always keep in my jeans pockets. after i gave them my bag i stuck my hands in my pockets, so when his buddy (who seemes 100times more freaked out than us) patted me down he thought he felt my hand and didnt htink to ask for my cell, thinking it was in my bag. Defietly freaky moment. At least nothing else happened, there are a few rapists on the lose here lately....

Nope, never. I hang on tight to my purse wherever I go, and if I know I don't actually need my purse with me, I simply do not bring it. I am terrified of being mugged, though. I do keep aware...I never talk on the phone walking into a building or out of a building. I check the back of my car to see if anyone is in it before I get in, and as soon as I get in I lock the doors, start the car and start driving -- no stopping to put on music, check texts or anything. I can do that when I am at a red light or something. At night, I am paranoid of someone breaking in, though I live on the top floor of my building, with only a few windows and a private entrance (no walking through the building) which makes me feel safe. I have two bolts, and another safety feature which allows you to only open the door a couple of inches. I dial "9-1-1" on my cellphone at night, and don't press send. That way, if I wake up and someone is breaking in, BF can kick their ass to kingdom come, and I can call for help. Weird, huh?My BF always carries a knife with him, and I carry mase with me. We live in a very safe suburban area, so I think we are just overly cautious.

Yes. When I was going to my bf house for my first time I got mugged in the park next to his building. The guy told me he was an ex-con and that if I didn't give him my cell he would stab my. I got all histeric and said I would give him money but not my cell, it sounds dumm now but how was I going to explain to my dad that I got mugged when I was suppoested to be at an all-girl sleepover? So the guy took the money but then he said that he would count to 3 and if I still hadn't given him my cell he would stab me and I got even more histeric and said my dad would hit me if I came home without my cell phone, I guess that convinced him cause he said I could go but i was paralysed so he took off.

Our house was broken into and robbed when I was little. But we weren't in the house at the time, we just showed up after, so it wasn't that scary to me at the time. I've never been mugged. But I took a self defense class recently, so If I do ever get mugged, the guy is going down!!! LOL. :-P :DOh and I agree, the pic is hilarious! :-P
