Do Tell: How Did You Meet Your Significant Other?

Most of you have been in at least one relationship before, which means you have a story that explains how you met! I always enjoy hearing how it all began — not only does it give me faith that it can happen to me too, but it gives a lot of insight into the couple and the individuals. Whether it was love at first sight or just a total fluke, do tell, how did you meet your significant other?

I work with a PR company across the hall from my office. One day, a guy came to my office to borrow a washroom key and said that he just started working for the company. Then the other day I went to their office to talk with the manager and we were officially introduced to each other, then we started exchanging messages through Facebook and getting to know each other. Soon we found that we're like two peas in a pod. A week later, we went on the first date. He always says he's so lucky to have me across the hall :) And I was so lucky to find a guy I had ever dreamt of just sitting in my office!

We were best friends for almost 4 years. I have always had bad boyfriends who treated me like crap so he just basically came to the rescue. And we have the best relationship. It was weird at first being intimate but now after 3 years, it has been awesome.

I was walking to the dance floor during 80s night a local club. I tripped coming down the stairs and fell into him. He's the love of my life and my best friend now.

I had gone to middle school with a guy, Joe, and known him for a few years. I moved and we kept in touch. He joined the Army later and was stationed about 30 minutes away, so he'd come down every weekend and we'd hang out, just friends. He left to Iraq one day before my senior year started, in 2004. He got back in March of 2005, and when he came down to see me after leave on May 1, he brought his roommate from Iraq with him. I could not STAND this guy. Thought he was so annoying and awkward, so I didn't talk to him much. Joe brought Josue (my now husband) with him again a few days later and I actually talked to him and saw he was okay. Then that next weekend they visited me again, and Josue and I totally hit it off ganging up on Joe. On Sunday, Josue asked me to dinner with him, so we went out that Monday, I saw how sweet he was, we held hands leaving the restaurant, he kissed me in the car and asked me to be his girlfriend. I found out later that that night when he was driving home he called his best friend and told him "I found the girl I'm going to marry." Now here we are 3.5 years later, married, and happier than ever. wow this is long. haha.

I met my SO on yahoo personals, it was about a week after more than two years of boy troubles, and I was complaining to some friends. One of them laughingly suggested I "make a profile on some dating site." I rolled my eyes, but that night, I went home, created a profile half-heartedly with some really random pictures (of me at Disneyland, riding the teacup ride, pictures of my stuffed animal bunny on the airplane, etc) and didn't expect much. After creating the personal ad, I clicked the function that would find "my matches" and the first one to come up was this cute guy who lived, according to the description, about 40 miles away. I clicked the profile, and the write up was very witty. He had a picture of himself, his car (Mini Cooper S) and some scenic photography. On a whim, I clicked the "send an icebreaker" module and went to bed shortly after. The next day, I had a message written back to me, along with his phone number and "real" email address. I wrote him back, and those messages relayed back and forth for almost a week when he suggested we meet! And of course, I was still in a bit of denial that someone that seemed so perfect for me could possibly need to be meeting women on the internet...but as my friends reminded me, I was the one "desperate enough to be meeting men on the internet!" Our first date was a bit of a test for him...it was a group date with a whole lot of MY friends (8 of them, in fact) and it turned out really well. We met at a new restaurant in a resort, and after a successful dinner, we were able to see the Magic Kingdom fireworks, and he hugged me in the parking lot at the end of the night. We met up again a few days later, and spent the whole evening just talking and laughing and really hitting it off...and the rest is history!=D

I met my ex in high school on the bus home from school (those were the days lol). It was March 8th, the day before my 15th birthday and the day before his 17th. I was talking to one of my best friends about my plans for the big day and he was sitting in the seat next to us eavesdropping:) After that, we started to talk and have been in each others lives ever since. We're no longer dating but we somehow manage to end up back together, even after 6 years and a lot of breakups lol. I'll love him forever.

We met at High School. In IT class. We didn't really do anything until this year though, we just became really close friends and one night at the pub it all came out.

Through a mutual friend in high school... He tried to get me to go out with him for so long (almost a year!). All he wanted was dinner but I wanted nothing to do with him. Finally I gave in and realized he was just what I was looking for. We didn't start to date until the summer before I went to college. We ended up at schools really close to each other. Everything pretty much just fell into place one day. Couldn't be happier!

I met my boyfriend in a second year university Business class (which we both found very dull). We have a mutual friend in that class so we ended up sitting next to each other on a couple occasions. At first, I didn't think much of him; he was cute and everything but not exactly setting my heart ablaze. Then, one day we actually had the chance to have a conversation and BAM! It just hit me out of nowhere. He was cute AND funny AND had the most gorgeous blue eyes on the planet! So I used this assignment we had as an excuse to hang out after class, we pretty much spent the whole week together actually. Later that week I spent a good deal of time trying desperately to work up the courage to ask him out. Luckily, he beat me to the punch! Albeit over MSN, but whatever! We've only been dating for about a month now, but we're definately having lots of fun.

Met in HS, she was a freshman, I was a senior. Now I just graduated college and she's halfway through. Hoping it lasts for many years to come, I know it will.

I met my boyfriend on a playdate when I was a baby. Haha. I don't even remember meeting him. Our parents are really good friends, so we met through them. We've been friends our entire lives and started dating about 8 years ago. :) He's like the Cory to my Topanga. <3

I met him at work too buy it was total fluke. Two of my then colleagues were about to go to a gift show in another state but two days prior to their departure one of them broke her leg so I had to replace her. It was the worst of times because I had tons of work at the office and I begged my boss not to go. Finally I did go and the last day of the show one girl I had met there invited me to dinner. While she did that she was accompanied by this guy that I assumed was his boyfriend... when I accepted her invitation the guy offered himself to go to my hotel so we could get to the restaurant together... then I stated to suspect. For the rest of the day he profited every chance to get to our booth and talk to me. That night he picked me up from my hotel and we had dinner with three other of his friends including the girl... Everything was great and I ended up spending the night with him. The following day he acted like my tour guide... I didn´t want to but I had to leave the town the next day. When we were saying goodbye I felt it... and I think he felt it too... I had fallen for him in just one day and a half. That was in February... three weeks later we went on Easter vacations together and since then we have been in a long distance relationship until last month that I moved with him.

I met her at work. I was just lucky enough to be tending the bar that night and she was drinking alone. I'd seen here there several times over the past year, but usually with her girlfriends. I commented that she was far too attractive to be drinking alone, and offered to make her next drink on the house, but only if I could join her. She agreed, but only if I made it the next few drinks instead of just one. When I told her it wasn't a problem because I own 50% of the bar, she grinned like a cheshire cat! And the rest, as they say, is history.

We were both volunteers in the Green Party office. I thought he was married (he had rings on every finger and a girl in tow), so when I got the feeling there were sparks he was quick to explain he just liked rings, and the girl was an ex-girlfriend he couldn't shake. For the rest of the month, we spent almost every evening together. When I was organizing a state party meeting, he was the only one who helped me the whole weekend. This includes a 3:30 a.m. errand that included a printer that continually jammed up, and a 5 a.m. wakeup call. True love! That was in 2000, and we've been together ever since.
