Do Tell: How Do You Feel About Sarcasm?

I sometimes have a hard time differentiating sarcasm from brash dialog. Since delivery is essential when it comes to sarcasm, one has to be convincing when purposely stating the opposite of what they mean. Sure, there's a time and a place for sarcasm, but then there are those people with those dry sense of humors that don't know when to draw the line. Some people love it while others could do without it, so do tell ladies, how do you feel about sarcasm?

I am sarcastic all the time with my fiance, some family and some friends. When I'm with the rest of them, I try not to be as snippy, and more serious. Anyway, my fiance and I have gotten into fights over stuff that was meant to be sarcastic but taken differently.I am not sarcastic to be hurtful or bitchy, but as a different way of being playful and funny. And yes, it is an artform a lot of people don't understand how to use.

How does the quote go..."sarcasm is anger's ugly cousin"? But it's my second language since I have lots of suppressed anger. LOL

I believe that sarcasm has a time and a place, and, like anything else, when over used it looses it's meaning. Sarcasm is an artform that not many know how to use.

I'm sarcastic a lot of the time. but the only time I avoid it is during fights. I think it has no place when you're actually angry- it's not constructive communication, and I don't want to end up arguing for 2 hours on that "I KNOW how you meant it because I HEARD you" statement.

My cousin is VERY sarcastic and for that reason I hardly ever attend her parties or just hang out with her! It wears thin very often...

heh, my boyfriend and i are probably the most sarcastic out of our friends =P. he's the king of snark. though it annoys the hell out of me when he gets sarcastic when we fight -- major pet peeve! so there's a time and a place sometimes...

Sarcasm runs through my veins.

Love it! I feel like it distinguishes people who actually have a sense of humor from those who don't. But like others have said, it is not appropriate in all circumstances.

I'm sarcastic with everything!! I even talk sarcastically to the kids I work with and even they get it! So if an adult can't take my sarcasm, they can get off their high horse!

Sarcastic people in my book are pretty darn witty, but I admit, there are times when the comments are simply inappropriate and unsuitable for the situation.

i am extremely sarcastic- its both my sense of humor and a defense mechanism. sometimes i take it too far but i usually realize that after the fact. i do try to make sure people know i am being sarcastic though, and those that know me well know i usually am being it.

Love. It. I can't live without it, I have a sarcastic remark about everything. It can get me into hot water at times (funeral, long story) but my one liner's are how I relieve my anxiety when I'm not comfortable. Most of the time though, it's just for fun.

I have a very dry sense of humor and people often take what I say the wrong way. I do love sarcam but I've definitely learned when it is not appropriate to use.

I am one of those "other's" who could do without it. Are you sensing my sarcasm here? Sorry. Grammar snobbishness aside, I realized long ago that even just a bit of sarcasm can make people really hate you. Use sparingly.

I'm a very sarcastic person, but I (unlike some people) know when it's not appropriate.

There is such a thing as too much sarcasm. After awhile it wears thin and if someone's dialogue is mostly sarcastic, it's tiresome. But sarcasm dropped in here and there with the right timing is great!
